Is there some sort of resource to learn which champion for a given role is appropriate under certain circumstances? Is it just looking up counterpick stat tables? For example, in support I like Zyndra and Lulu, and I can tell they're pretty different, but I'm not sure what would justify picking one over the other in a given game.

It is just counterpick stats, though if you play the lane enough you will generally just get a feel for it anyway. That said, I wouldn't really worry about counterpicks until diamond anyway. I've won plenty of 'bad' lanes. If you know your champ well it doesn't matter

Consider synergy: Zyra (which I assume you mean) is good at poking and mid/long-range engages. Ideally you'd match her with an ADC with similar strengths to push that advantage. Lulu has an attack speed buff and anti-dive tools, so she is perhaps better suited with a hypercarry like Vayne.

Is it just looking up counterpick stat tables? counterpicks are not poo poo until you hit diamond. any imagined counterpick until around that skill level, 9/10 times by just getting better at the game you can ignore the differences. ask yourself what your team is trying to do, and what champion can best augment that game plan, then ask yourself which of your champions is best to win the lane you are in. i do not give a mother flipping hoot if some website says zilean top is statistically 3% more favourable against vi top or whatever crazy poo poo the internet tells you. if you do not play zilean top, do not play zilean top. individual comfort and expertise dwarfs champion matchup until all things start to even out at high elo. even then, one tricks can still clean house, so have no fear zilean top mains

For most of the time counter picking doesn't matter if you know the champ you're playing better than your opponent. Like I remember a game where I was playing Teemo against Garen thinking I picked the perfect counter but that dude was a loving Garen savant who just absolutely destroyed me.

avoid blindpicking champs that you know can be counterpicked by popular champions. if you have a habit of blindpicking garen then expect a steady stream of poo poo like gnar and teemo. if you main offmeta stuff you have a very big advantage when it comes to matchups. if you produce a playstyle that people have no experience playing vs then you can win matchups you shouldnt be able to win

Camille is honestly pretty easy to learn. The only parts of her that require practice are understanding the bizarro hitboxes of her E and getting a feel for the timer on second Q. Despite her reputation, she's far more of a thinking champion (knowing when to go in and on who) than an execution champion.
