you don't actually need to delve into monster classes at all (except for maybe the free healslime heart), since most intermediate and all advanced classes are already super strong.

I couldn't find a DQXI thread so I'll ask here: is Sizzle Puff worth it? I'm getting to around what I'm thinking of as midgame (no idea whether that's accurate) meaning Champs Sauvage and the Eerie Eyrie etc, and the newer crafting recipes are getting tough, meaning I'm running out of stamina before I can complete every section and am running dangerously low on Perfectionist Pearls. My usual strategy has been to abuse the poo poo out of Double-Edged Bash to build up multiple things at once, use Double Whammy when I have to work on a single meter, and finish things up with Lightening Bash if possible. Lately my poo poo has had simply too many giant meters for me to finish everything and I'm running out of stamina before I can finish. I've tried using Sizzle Puff at the beginning to cover more ground with my initial bashes but I'm not really sure if it's worth the stamina. Also, my observation has been that two Double-Edged Bashes are better than two Double Whammies to work on two meters; is that accurate?

Its definitely worth it but you may be right about where its just barely worth it. As you progress you'll find that it becomes very obviously worth it. Basically the higher rank the thing is you're trying to craft the more worth it sizzle puff gets.

Sizzle puff is absolutely worth it. By the final crafts, I was starting every craft with one or two Sizzles before actually bashing away. Triple Whammy, Quadrabash, Kaquadrabash, and Multibash are your most efficient crafting abilities IIRC. Double Whammy and Double Edged Bash are about the same with Double Edge having more chance at a critical.

This is the DQXI thread. If Sizzle Puff was the temp rising skill, I almost always started crafting by using it twice. If you just got it then you may only have enough stamina for the one use.

Got it, thanks all Crafting was definitely way overpowered in early-game when it was easy and I was pumping out +3 of everything when the stuff in shops was weaker than my crafting results would have been at +0, and is starting to even out a bit now that I'm lucky to get +1s and pearls are harder to come by; presumably as I get more stamina/flourishes it'll get OP again by endgame

Okay, I'm on the third act now, and I just got to the point where everyone gets their levels back from before the time travel. Looks like this is the point where the world really opens up. So, any quests or areas I should be prioritizing, or is it safe to just explore around?

Cobblestone has some quests to get you on the right track, but generally speaking just hit up every town. Make sure you finish the story up until the final boss opens up since that has some quest unlocks behind it and it involves no fighting anyway.

I just beat DQ6 for the first time ever and wow did I not care about the ending. Like, at all. They dropped the ball pretty bad somewhere in the dream/real world nonsense. Their was no explanation or in world reasoning as to what was going on between the two. It felt like the Twin Peaks of Dragon Quest and not in the good, make you think about metaphors and the meaning of life, kind of way. It was just a mess of nonsense thrown together with tiny bits of fairy tale encounters that didn't matter a bit at the end of the day. A fashion show? Sure! Slime arena? Of course! 4 different casinos? Why not? 5 different methods of transportation? Yes! Coherent narrative and purposeful interactions? Naaaah.

Yeah, 6 is the most “there” Dragon Quest since the only real thing they had in mind was “well, games from the SFC era had two worlds, why not us!”. I like the party well enough with Party Chat, and the gameplay asks a lot more out of you than the average DQ since enemies hit like bulldozers riding trucks to compensate for vocations, but yeah, besides the gameplay it doesn’t really offer a lot.

Good points. The characters were fun to chit chat with at times and fit their personalities. I always appreciated Carter's "does anyone know what's going on?!" Moments and the rough combat kept me interested to the end. I wish it was a little easier to crowd control with aligments that missed 90% of the time, but eh. Oh well. It kept you engaged.

The bonus dungeons in DQ 6 is a real let down compared to the bonus one from DQ4. DQ4 has a really trippy dungeon you can go through after the main boss, but DQ6 is a game about dreams. It seems like the final dungeon should be even more trippy, a chance to really freak the player out and do some mind-bending stuff before the final bonus confrontation with Nokturnus. Nope, it's pretty normal. A bit of nice fanservice to DQ 4 and 5 in the middle, but the actual dungeon is nothing special. Too bad, DQ6 just feels like a could-be-great game full of wasted potential.

Finally decided I’d gone far enough with all my characters in the low-mid 90s and ultimate gear on all of them except for the best outfits for rab, sylvando, and jade. Passed on the last harma trial and the second round of horse races. True final boss was a decent fight at that point. Not super hard but a few tense moments where it looked like it was going to turn against me. Genuinely a bit surprised by one of the post fight story beats. Ending was good.

I'm replaying Dragon Quest Builders and am about to fight the Chapter 1 boss, and I'm wondering something. I built the town walls up pretty high; is the boss's jump attack he does while I'm dealing with the hammerhoods he summons guaranteed to gently caress the walls up as he clips through them, or will he jump higher and not clip through my poo poo if i keep my distance from the town border and stick to the edges of the arena? On my last playthrough, the walls weren't has high, so I have no idea if the destruction can be avoided. edit: Yep, he clips through your poo poo if you're right up against the wall, but sails harmlessly over everything if you're at the edge of the arena. Marching on in my first time ever series playthrough, I started up DQVII on my new 3DS and am really digging it. After reading the changes made from the PS1 version, wow. Glad I didn't have to suffer through the original growing pains. The intro was even slower?? How is that even possible?! Looking back, they really put forth a good effort in making the older games in the series more playable with all of the new versions and rereleases. Happy to find out that this 3DS version is made for long pauses in between play sessions with story recaps and helpful reminders as this will be a loooong year with this one I think.
