It's staggering how desensitized we are to the President publicly supporting the word of a foreign adversary over his own intelligence chiefs. Meanwhile: https://twitter.com/ReutersWorld/status/1085540629843795969

Just wanted a clear statement to give when I call. There are two benefits for surviving spouses of deceased military members: Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, through the VA, is paid the the surviving spouse of a veteran who dies of a service-connected condition or an active duty service member who dies in the line of duty. As the name suggests the payment is made in exchange for holding the government harmless in the case of the death of the veteran or service member. The other is the DoD's Survivor Benefit Plan which is a plan a retiree pays into in order to provide his surviving spouse continuing benefits following the retiree's death (and is also granted when an active duty service member dies in the line of duty). The two benefits are intended to pay out for completely different reasons, yet every dollar of DIC received is deducted from SBP payments. That's more than 1-2 sentences, though, so the short version is "Congress promised to eliminate this offset 10 loving years ago but never did."

The Senate bill hasn't been submitted. The senator who kept submitting the Senate counterpart lost his seat in the midterms.

Nostalgia4Infinity posted:what the gently caress Nancy’s good now https://twitter.com/scottwongDC/status/1085228117604646912?s=19 The bottom line of all this is that very little legislative poo poo was going to get done in this divided government. If it was a unified Democratic government, there could be serious discussions about how liberal to be and who was in charge would have serious implications. Now though? You need a ball-buster that can also keep the Democratic House Of Wild Kittens in lockstep. People forgot that those are Pelosi's two strengths. Pelosi won't inspire you. But she'll give you her balls if you need them, or kick you in yours when you get out of line.
