A little while ago I started reading a comic called Star Power. I don't actually recall how I heard about it, but I added it to a feed and caught up while waiting for other stuff to update, etc. It's fine, I wouldn't have bothered to share it except that it turns out that the writer is the dude from Dominic Deegan and for some reason he decided to illustrate the latest issue himself. Holy poo poo, I had forgotten all about how terrible that comic was and he has done nothing to improve. Not only is the 'style' poo poo, it's poorly implemented as well. Why would someone do that, the existing artist was pretty great. There's no way I can tolerate this ugly crap, so I guess I'm done with the comic until I remember to look at it again and hope it swaps back. Way to go guy.

Maybe the artist quit and he's covering because he doesn't want to explain how he drove them off?

It's....technically improved since Dominic Deegan? People have noses in profile now at least.

Haha that's loving hilarious, when Dominic Deegan ended I kind of rolled my eyes at the new comic. It looked like generic-as-hell 90s superhero stuff. But the fact that he decided to illustrate again is just delicious.

This seems to imply that it's just a single-issue story though, and the artist will be back for a full storyline after this? IDK: http://www.starpowercomic.com/comic/annual-holiday-break/?nav=prev

I don't care enough to actually read it though. Quickly looking through the 3 pages he drew it's obvious his writing is pretty much the same. This panel has me cracking up for some reason though, apparently she just floats around in space with that expression all the time:

Also the story is called "The Heavy Metal Showdown". Ugh, gently caress off.

It's fine.
Don't worry about it.
I know we're reminiscing about our youth misspent having thoughts and feelings about Dominic Deegan now, but as far as CYOA-y webcomics go All Night Laundry is a pretty good one about personal anxieties, time travel, and extra-dimensional horror.

At the very least, the creator seems like a chill guy instead of a weird goon that lets teenagers mod his comment section the way bogleech does for awful hospital

Are there any CYOA comics that are traditional format where you choose the next action yourself? I doubt anyone's really put in the effort of drawing it all, but it'd be a fun ride.

that's kinda uncharitable imo; bogleech is definitely a goon but his enthusiasm for monster designs is contagious and he seems like a nice dude

Gotta agree here. Also, "never read the comments section" is a rule that should never be broken regardless of the comic's format.

Except Kill Six Billion Demons, because that's not so much a comic as the alignment of ten thousands stars creating the perfect creative being known as Operant and his story about a barista walking the long, hard road towards becoming a badass lesbian cyclops.

It's a CYOA adventure comic; the comments section leaks into each update as a matter of practice.

Those people are morons and every plot point and character from start to finish is an ill-conceived cardboard standee, a PC from one of Mookie's tabletop rpg games, or both.

Highlights include an attempt to make a heroic rapist, and one of the bad guys being the only cool and relatable character, so he kept making him more and more over the top evil to try and stop it.

Also a fever dream of an arc where the main character's little brother, in a very self-serious fantasy comic, used his magic powers to become this:

Which he stored on his comic website.

Other gems I'm just now remembering: Mookie got lazy about updating the character bios page, so he decided to just link to the comic's wikipedia page instead. And then Wikipedia took the page down for not being notable.

The great and terrible price that the hero's girlfriend has to pay near the end is being made sterile.

Multiple times, women are shown dead on-panel with lots of cleavage sticking out.

Dominic scares away the big bad eldritch monster on two separate occasions, first by making a giant teddie bear, and then later by disguising himself as an interdimensional crab cop.

A lot of DD storylines sound pretty awesome in concept but in execution everything is unearned and lands with a thud. Dominic wins not because he's resourcesful and clever, he wins because no one can ever, ever be smarter or cooler than Dominic. So he just pulls something stupid out of his rear end and it works because Dominic always needs to win.
