Do your disgusting filth politicians get lifetime pensions when they retire too? In Australia it's always great to see politicians who get six-figgy pensions for the rest of their lives after quiting complaining about people using government support programs. I'm sure he'll survive even if he doesn't get a seat with the fancy lads.

They don't get a choice, only one person runs there from the major parties. It's the seat with the most spoiled votes in the country.

In theory they could some day vote a Green in, but that'd require them to organise it.

senior politicians in the UK can expect millions when they leave office, often for a single deal. The lib dem twat that signed off on paying China to contract EDF to build a power station we could have built ourselves got a good six figure salary for a few hours a month at EDF the day he left office.

You get rid of lobbying by throwing people in prison for it, nothing else works

In the old MRE thread (that's the thread about MREs in the food subforum, not specifically about old MREs,) this came up a lot. Apparently this is a myth. it could be how the blacks and Irish used to mix as the lower class, or worst case scenario some slave holders in the colonies used Irish names for some reason

The first post I quoted suggested that Tyrone became a popular name among black Americans because Irish Americans were a persecuted class who spent their time chilling with their black brethren in chains and that led to black people popularizing the name out of respect for their Irish brothers who joined the struggle. I don't buy into the bullshit theory that the Irish in America were just as subjugated as black slaves.

JFairfax posted:

have a loving guess about how white names got popular amongst black americans

Tyrone was never a white name. That was my point. There weren't Irish people from Tyrone called Tyrone emigrating to America and becoming slaveholders forcing the mothers of their bastard offspring to name their kids Tyrone.

I just wondered why such a white backwater shithole in Ireland somehow became a popular name among black Americans.

This was dumb and I am a dumb for bringing it up. It's a cool name regardless and the etymology of it isn't a hill I'm willing to die on.
