You know you didn't have to go post that, right?
But it's fine, I guess...

You just keep being you!

I'm sure that, if each of your units haven't all taken their turn yet, you can press "tab" to cycle through your units - even one that has taken all its actions, which can then take "non-action"... er... actions, like opening/closing doors.

tab skips over units that have used all their actions, but clicking on such a unit works if memory serves.

The only free action I remember that can be taken after a soldier uses both actions is evacuating if they’re in the zone for that. Opening doors is free but has to be done before your second move, I think.

This is mostly true but they tried to improve it in XCOM2 vs the first new one. For one, concealment lets you do some recon (I love Shadow in the expansion!) and for two unseen groups now tend to converge on you or the line between you and your objective once you’re revealed so scouting can at least ensure you encounter them on your own terms.

There's a few more (only in the expansion maybe?) relating to certain objectives. Triggering them shows up as an action like Evac even after a dash. Seems completely random which will do this and which won't though.

Notes about the weapon options that popped up in Shen's workshop: Those are the special weapons designed to fight the Alien Rulers. Having disabled the mission you just get them for free.

On who can use what...The weapons are class locked. Only Rangers can use the Axe, only Sharpshooters can use the Pistol. Rangers and Specialists and eventually <REDACTED> can use the Bolt Caster. Anyone can use the Frost Bomb but since its just a fancy grenade it's best used by a Grenadier for the extended range.

Combined with the fact that you lost three men your first mission (meaning you don’t get to use any promoted soldiers for this one) and a pretty mean timer. Yeah.

Almost correct yeah: they have unlocked an item that needs to be fabricated, but it's something you can equip (like grenades or medkits) instead of a new type of armor.

In our defence it is tremendously unclear that there's a active mission available from the UI, or at the very least when they are going to fail. I think one of the biggest failings I have with XCOM is how unfriendly it is to people just dipping in to do one mission and stopping after that.

In the bottom middle of the screen there are icons for all active sites of interest that can give you an at a glance view of the game state.

The big problem is, the tutorial sucks and doesn't explain diddly other than that people will die. So you have no idea what those icons mean and if they can be ignored until you've played a bit. Same as how it tells you that cover is important, but explains nothing on how flanking it works.

I get that the devs wanted to preserve the feeling of dealing with the alien and unknown so that you would find out what aliens and research did on the fly, but they really dropped the ball on telling you how the gamey stuff works.

Mr. Vile

And, where there is treasure, there will be Air Pirates.
You seem to be pretty confused about how aim, flanking and cover in general work. I'll put this under spoiler tags just in case, but it's all core game mechanics that you've been exposed to since mission 1:

The little tabs that pop out of the aiming interface give you the exact bonuses and maluses, but the short version is: Every unit has an Aim stat that determines their base chance to hit (65 for a basic rookie, giving them a 65% chance to hit a target) If the target is behind cover, that subtracts a flat number from the hit chance. High cover subtracts 40, while low cover subtracts 20, leaving a paltry 25% hit chance for a rookie.

Like so (there are smaller bonuses for things like being at close range or having an almost flanking angle, but the big one to worry about is cover)

As a general rule, enemies outnumber you and have innately higher stats, so trying to just snipe at each other from behind cover is always going to be rigged in their favour. To have any advantage, you need to remove as many of their bonuses as possible, mainly by flanking them or destroying their cover.

Cover in general acts as a flat plane, with anything on their other side having to shoot through it to try to hit the unit.

Znorelag (next to the cursor) has full cover provided by the truck, so anything on the other side of the blue line has to try to shoot through his high cover bonus. In this case that means both enemies, but the Advent trooper is in a perfect spot to just walk a few spaces left and then shoot Znorelag in the back, completely ignoring his cover, which is exactly what happens. This is called "flanking", and units that are being flanked are indicated in yellow. Aside from ignoring cover bonuses, shooting an exposed target like this also gives a significant crit chance, indicated in the other pop-out tab.

One wrinkle to the cover system is that low cover can be fired directly over, while high cover cannot, and the unit will temporarily "step into" the tile next to them if they're behind high cover. It sounds weird on paper but makes sense when you see it actually happen in game.

Aside from trying to outmaneuver and flank opponents, which isn't always possible, the other main way to tip the odds in your favour is to outright destroy cover. Aside from them being guaranteed damage, this is the big advantage of grenades and other explosives - objects highlighted in red while aiming them will be damaged or destroyed, potentially leaving an enemy completely exposed. Weirdly, enemies that are completely exposed rather than outflanked don't get highlighted in yellow, but they get no cover bonus regardless. It's pretty easy to tell when a unit is exposed because they're just standing in the open rather than pressed up against a object. Not all objects can be completely destroyed - cars will explode and turn into burned out husks but continue to provide cover, for example - but it generally makes sense which ones can and can't be completely atomised by an explosion.
