This is a bad take because polling on a ton of basic left issues far outpaces Pelosi's willingness to do anything. She's an obstructionist and she has power because she's the best at wrangling campaign funding in our laughable campaign finance system where you can literally just bribe politicians.

Pelosi's willingness to do anything is based more on the fact that no left policies are getting past the Senate for at the very least two years. Pelosi's "obstructionism" is probably the least obstacle those policies would/will face.

Nancy Pelosi is the leader of her caucus. if the caucus is more progressive that's the way she leads, if it's more conservative that's the way she leads. She is the person who knows best what will actually pass.

I don't know why people are so hung up on this one person theory. Mitch McConnell acts the way he does because that's the way the Senate wants him to act, the same with Nancy Pelosi. these aren't individual leaders who control x amount of votes they are representatives for x amount of votes.

Politics is hard.

Who cares. It's called leadership. To build the coalition to do the thing you need to get people excited by showing willingness to do the thing. Under Obama, House GOP stoked their base to an insane degree by repealing Obamacare every 3 weeks.

If you don't even try because that specific bill won't pass the Senate then voters may as well just stay home because there's literally nothing beyond the empty platitudes for them to go on. You have to give people a reason to want to show up to give you the Senate, and you do that by showing what could be getting passed if you had control of the Senate now.

Yes because GOP got the Senate and still has it! The goal of their gambit, juicing turnout, worked!

Obamacare didn't get repealed because repeal became terribly unpopular when Republicans had literally nothing to replace it with due to it already being a right wing compromise in the first place.

M4A and min. wage are popular workable policies, and so yeah it would be different.

to be fair, most presidents don't get nearly as many scotus picks as he's likely to end up with and that'll shape the entire country for like 50 years

Their plan got them the house, and senate, and presidency, and managed to steal at least 1 supreme court seat.

Not to mention all the state level poo poo they won as well. If the republican party wasn't busy eating itself and had a platform beyond "gently caress the libs" they'd have been able to translate that into a crazy strong hold on govt.

You're shifting the time periods to suit your argument. They had full control of all 3 branches, and part of why is that they were very effective in demonstrating in the previous cycle what they wanted to do when they had that control.

Yeah, they lost the house in 2018, but only by a few dozen seats and because it turned out all the stuff they wanted to do or did do was massively unpopular.

The two SCOTUS seats have given conservatives and reactionaries veto power over basically whatever congress and the president wants to pass for a generation, so yeah, its a pretty drat successful presidency

Even lukewarm centrist electoral and campaign finance reforms will be nuked from orbit with extreme prejudice, and there is a pretty high probability that abortion will be made illegal and gay rights will be rolled back. One more SCOTUS seat could see the civil rights act go down. And lol about any legislation to meaningfully combat climate change or implement MFA

The tax cuts are just icing on the cake
