Yeah, hydraulics or airbags. You can see the rear shift when the raise the front back up off of the bump stops.

An extra shield under the engine and transmission oil pan wouldn't go amiss.

Not that these knuckleheads are smart enough to do this, I'd imagine this sort of display has ended in both a long trail of oil and a massive fire several times.

I'm not sure what's worse, scraping a hole in your oil pan, or lighting a magnesium fire under your car.

And it needs a spotter car during take-off and landing. Apparently the AF is now using Teslas for this, at least in one instance I guess.

This is a fairly common thing in lowrider communities. Buy a magnesium block, put it on your rear bumper and tail drag.

In the episode of Mythbusters where Adam got to go up in a U2 they used a Camaro. It's a goofy as hell system. It's hard to believe that's Plan A.

It seems to work pretty well and it doesn't require adding any whiz-bang new stuff to the airplane. All you need is a relatively fast car and a spare pilot with a radio. That's undoubtedly cheaper and probably more reliable than some kind of automatic radar wing-leveler or whatever.

And a Tesla makes a lot of sense because you need a lot of acceleration, but only need to drive for a few minutes -- the car has to wait stopped at the end of the runway for the plane to arrive, and then quickly accelerate to approach speed (~120mph) to keep up. I bet the big glass roof helps the spotter keep an eye on the wings, too.

e: I wonder if the autopilot can follow runway markings to keep the car in line, lol
