It's pretty OSHA by default, since many of the contestants are amateur and there are plenty of power tools and open flames involved. But today I saw something a bit special: See also: (12:23 if it doesn’t load to a time) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB9zz7TaZ2w&t=743s

Now imagine the same system but in a plane that's little more than two engines four sizes too big taped with tinfoil to a cockpit and some wings The MiG-31 is fun.

That is, the ground crews would drink the alcohol from the brakes of your gottagofast jet. I'd guess this crash was a combination of an unusually hard landing and old airframe. A lot of old airframes have been crashing lately in Russia.

And yeah, constantly on phone and radio all shift, I was the only one in the training that got 100% on the Comms course (being ex-army helped with that). The thing that really pissed me off is that Everything I do on the computer I have to also track manually on the sheet. The desk will be full of eraser bits after 8 hours. I was controlling mainly coal trains so not a lot of stops at 'stations' but a lot of trying to manage a single line with two-way traffic and then the track monkeys wanting to work the line JUST as I've laid a plan. As for how many trains - probably 15 a day over a 500KM radius. So not anything like commuter trains so time to plan poo poo out a bit, but constantly checking if a certain train can actually fit into a cutout/station to do a pass was stressful as they are so loving long. But sometimes the managers would roll out something classic to gently caress with the freight route for PR reasons. This day I was lucky and got to ride it instead of making it fit into the schedule: And yes, we did troll a lot of new people saying this was the steering wheel:

Has anyone made a streetcar with a steering wheel/yoke? I've seen tracks for a horse-drawn tramway which didn't have mechanical switches/points, I can only assume they got the horse to pull it to the side they wanted to take.

I'm the instinctive but ineffective wrenching of the wheel to the right, followed by the acceptance of fate and return of wheel to center immediately before hitting the wall.

It gets better/worse. It misses his next train to toronto, sits in a bush overnight after accidentally getting on a train going into a train yard and being trapped in there for awhile and being spotted. He then catches another train to get out of there, which goes the wrong way (to detroit) and he has to jump off it in the middle of the night at speed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYCAMfbmJ-0&t=235s (4mins in)

There was actually one (likely posted ITT, but awhile back and likely in coordination with news on someone doing trainhopping vids literally like this dying under unstated-but-pretty-obvious circumstances) where it was just someone trainhopping with a gopro, no voiceover, no annotations beyond occasional time-and-date, that were pretty cool.

I don't get the feeling he was in the mindset to ask about further details but I'd think it'd just end up with him getting a fine and deported and banned anyways, sooo

Quoting from way back (finally remembered to!) but GE locomotives have a reputation for weak turbo construction... which eventually will break, eat themselves, and start a nice big fire like that. Also the fuel line routing in GEs (don't hold me to this one) is relatively poor compared to EMD's, which leads to more incidents like this. That said, apparently they have fixed most of their issues, but they're still called toasters

Maybe the thread has already covered this, but let me share my favorite roadside drink: sugar cane juice. It's gross as gently caress so I don't actually drink it, but the machines that they use to make it are always fascinatingly unsafe. New machines come with covers that the pros remove to facilitate in-operation jam clearing. After a few years the machines are reduced to 100% pure crushing mechanism, be it sugar cane or limbs. Here's some videos: Use a big flywheel to ensure you can keep crushing but under no circumstances cover that thing up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcYbUr9LLXg Got a washing machine motor and some loose belts? Crush some cane but don't forget to save time by prying stuck fibres out while it's running. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZC_PaC03J4E Oh poor little baby wants it safe? No problem we'll cover those gears up. Try and get your hands stuck on this fine piece of Brazilian engineering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFSQX9_Mx2o
