"Stalinist" means you support outright killing those who oppose the transition to Communism. "Maoist" means you support merely "reeducating" those people. The pattern continues for "Leninist". They are all Communist, but differ in the methods to implement Communism.

You need to emphasize, because this is not remotely true. Taxes on income above $10 million was directly responsible from a massive economic boom in the 1940s and 1950s. Versus our current system that cuts taxes and promote the fallacy of Trickle Down Theory. There's nothing to poorly implement.

I'm going to engage in good faith. How would they crash the economy? Which polices exactly? None of their policies will be implemented without disruption, that is correct. I touched on that earlier in my posts about UBI. What exactly are you seeing as potential economy crashers? Single Payer? Unlikely, though a bunch of people who are in the bloated sections of the healthcare industry would get screwed, i.e. people whose jobs depend on the network of insurance companies and interfacing between and with them. 70% tax on income above 10 million? Its been done in the past, in this country.

It's probably the consequence of our two major foundation myths, which are the American Dream and the Just World Fallacy. If all it takes to succeed is hard work, and bad things only happen to bad people, then we can hate on the poors and refuse to help, because they must be lazy bad people.

Actually this goes way back to like the revolutions in Europe when socialist thought was first really showing up. It scared the poo poo out of everyone in power, and when Russia fell during WW1 that fear went into hyperdrive and we've been riding that wave ever since. We've done a good job throughout the cold war of turning it into basically a swear word for many people though, and it'll take a while before people are able to decouple "socialist" from "hey I like being able to afford health care".

Not to pile on, but it's amazing that people can and do make this kind of argument in good faith. The global financial system almost self-destructed 10 years ago and was only saved by extensive state intervention. This complete failure of the existing economic system is still in living memory! But somehow its reformists that must guarantee they won't cause economic collapse (as if increased taxes on the wealthy would be anything other than massive stimulus), to some undefined standard.

It's honestly worse than that. Schultz has made a choice that, essentially, the risk of the super rich not being nearly as important and powerful justifies enabling fascists. The idea that he, an Important Businessman with Good Opinions, might have to be financially accountable for the damage that he and other Important Businesspeople have done to the country, is so anathema that he is willing to risk four more years of Trump in order to avoid a candidate that is insufficiently tame for his standards. He is willing to let ICE brutalize more people, energize more Nazis to commit hate crimes, let an idiot continue chipping away at the foundations of the international order to bring us back to pure Hobbesian international relations...all so his taxes don't go up. Even if I don't think he as a candidate is likely to have any real effect on the race in 2020, a version of him that isn't boring as hell could be a problem when the future Trump-but-competent inevitably shows up on the scene. There are a lot of Howard Schultzes, and most of them would go Nazi rather than see their power base eroded in any way.
