He uses a special breathing mask to help him sleep at night. To make it more interesting he added a model prop to the front of the mask. This prop is from a movie where creepy aliens attach to your face, gently caress it and implant alien babys in your stomach. This is disturbing.

it's good that Facebook realized that if they don't unfuck their poo poo on their own a movement will build up to do it to them.

That said I doubt they'll listen to the guy for all but token improvements

you're not nearly cynical enough

hiring them shuts them up, and I'm sure the contracts came with NDAs or possibly even non-disparagement clauses, which makes it far more difficult to call out FB misbehavior

Nice that that's the red line.

The whole article is filled with gems like the the secret list for American targets was called the "white category" and quotes like

quote:

Some days it was hard to swallow, like [when you target] a 16-year-old kid on Twitter. But it’s an intelligence mission, you are an intelligence operative. I never made it personal.”
And

quote:

Stroud said her background as an intelligence operative made her comfortable with human rights targets as long as they weren’t Americans. “We’re working on behalf of this country’s government, and they have specific intelligence objectives which differ from the U.S., and understandably so,” Stroud said. “You live with it.”

Australia has a problem with dryland salinity. Basically cutting down vast forests and planting wheat caused the water table to creep around and bring salt to the surface which is generally regarded as bad. One answer was to dig huge canals that would draw away the salty water and at the same time replant the forests which would pull the water table back down and over time the salt with it. Then the final piece was to cut down parts of the forest and bury the trees in the now dry canals as a form of carbon sequestration to buy carbon credits as a way of compensating farmers for the loss of otherwise soon to be worthless land. It sounds dumb as hell but it would probably work over time.

Instead they went with the far more sensible option of ignoring the problem as more and more land becomes a salt encrusted wasteland. Thanks for reading.
