Nihonniboku posted:That was the perfect amount of time. Anymore than that, I would have been very frustrated. We got some good gags, some mild suspense, lots of Todd, and a satisfying resolution to that story arc. Yeah, this show has always been really good about not dragging this stuff out, they take plots up until the writers start getting bored and then move on.

When I hear an un-bleeped “gently caress” on cable, it feels naughty. I wouldn’t react as strongly to an acrobat orgy on HBO. The next step is Wheel of Fortune with a tile that kills you i hope. They say gently caress a lot on this show.

Quentin's arm breaking was one of the most horrifying things I've seen in a while, and holy poo poo notEliot was just oozing "I'm a god" in this episode. Why is this show so much better every season when so many others just go straight downhill.

I think one thing contributing to how good The Magicians has been that it doesn't keep a status quo. We have season long arcs, and smaller ones that resolve after an episode or two. But the smaller ones also deliver meaningful changes to the characters. Plus, the whole production has been great about ramping up the stakes with every single movement. There's also a distinct lack of 'mystery boxes' (except for this episodes literal Mystery Box) there's almost nothing that the audience is told "this is important" and then "but I can't tell you why."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktcXxM2F8N0 glad they put this clip up haha "I had an affair with his wife, he behaved abominably." Love Fog and Todd but like Nihonn said I hope the magician writers know that part of their strength is that they aren't MCs, that they're great breaks from the main cast.

All the stuff with Fogg was hilarious and also pitiable. I like that they've had an undercurrent of self-immolation going on with him from the very first season, because he's a great character. I love that he oozes contempt for the kids and yet loves them dearly.

I fist-pumped at the reveal that Alice and Santa will attempt a chimney-based prison break. And man, after the full events of last episode it seems we'll be moving at a truly break-neck pace.

And a lot of jealousy too since he can't partake in their adventures and he has more responsible role for magic at Brakebills than robbing banks with HKM.

I got a bit lost, what happened with Marina? I assume Kady somehow offloaded a bunch of bad luck onto her and I guess that guy who called out to her was some kind of stalker? And can someone remind me why Julia's "bulletproof"? She gave up her godhood, so was there something else?

Kady turned the badluck bear into a coin and gave it to Marina. Also I thought Julia was still essentially a god, just temporarily depowered, so I have no idea.

Do you recall the episode from last season where they track down Reynard, and he's delivering pizza? It's established then that even without the kernel of power that let him perform godly magic, he's still as ageless and immortal as he ever was. Julia burned out that kernel of power making a new set of keys to magic, but like Reynard was she's evidently still divinely unkillable, with caveats.

It might be a rehash, but I could see Julia building back up to godhood by helping people, but it might be masked by everyone getting magic back. Or if OLU is coming back this season (which if the mythology lines up, she might be) she may reward Julia again - if only because at least one character needs a good happy arc and I think Julia is up for it.

At this point, I think I'm most concerned for Margo. Elliot might never be back, or he might come back but remember everything he's done, or any other number of things. But Margo is committed to her best friend, but that best friend has become an impossibly dangerous monster. That's the character development I'm watching for right now. (And the cool wizard poo poo, I'm not gonna pretend I'm not on board that too.)

I kinda hope they get to the Fillory's dying cloud plot from the books. The big takeaway was Janet as a gently caress off warrior king who to no poo poo.
