Just tried the Nobodies start for the first time since the beta, is it supposed to spawn you in the middle of Venge? Seems a bit cruel. Edit: Also, gonna try a Shek only run. No Stealth, no ranged, just pure melee and MA. Broken Cog fucked around with this message at 02:33 on Feb 2, 2019 |

Wow Bagger posted:I knocked out a high inquisitor and put him in the prison tower in Squin for the bounty. Later the game sent a wrath of god event at me and picked him to lead it. So all the paladins and inquisitors spawned beside him in the prison tower and promptly started raising hell. Game is a bit wonky regarding named boss npc's and trash that spawns with them. Similar thing happened to me some time ago when raiding Black Dragon ninja dudes tower. As long as the boss was alive and at tower, even though he was unconscious and being carried by my guys, it kept respawning more Black Dragons at the tower. Which was somewhat annoying as I was trying to rest there and twice I got a huge load of dudes spawning on top of me out of nowhere. But I suppose they were sort of ninjas so maybe they were in the walls, mugs and door knobs, who knows

Picked up this game on a whim, went out into the horrible wilderness with myself and some goober I found in the Hub to set up an outpost and mine stone. That... didn’t end well. I guess I should stick closer to town for a bit until I can afford a few more recruits.

I see people say that heavier Heavy Weapons takes a higher strength to use effectively. Is there a certain threshold chart for Strength/Weight you should have to use a HW optimally?
|
# ? Feb 3, 2019 03:46 |
|
You generally want double the strength of the weight of the weapon

I'm pretty sure it's literally just if you have less than 2x the weight in strength you get an attack speed penalty.

Then I'll go by that, cheers! I was wondering why the Exile Plank seemed kinda mediocre.

And if I were to wear something that puts my stats at or above 99, would that effectively lock my training in that stat? I'm at like 93 stealth but wearing some gear that sets me to around 102, haven't really budged on the xp bar despite constantly stealthing around raids to steal all their gear. It can be unpredictable, though. Try to prospect with a science skill of more than a thousand and your game crashes, because the game can't handle a prospecting image that big. Also, it makes you huge. Like xyber huge. It's kind of hilarious to see your guys turn into the Hulk.

Does strength increase the overall swing speed of Heavy Weapons past the no-penalty limit of 2x weapon weight? Also, how does Falling Sun factor into this, considering it says it needs Dexterity as well?

It's dex that helps you swing faster, strength just lets you swing without penalties.

I had a fog men attack and Holy Nation assault happening at once. The fog men breached the walls, I mostly fought off the first wave but then the second one came in. They knocked out everyone, minus the 3 mounted crossbow people on the roofs. As they dragged 3 party members off the holy assault came in, annoyingly they calmly ran past the retreating fog men, but they started fighting the fog men once they got inside the base. They were too busy with one another to take out the people on the crossbows, eventually ending with both sides down. I slowly recoup the people still in the base and begin looting. Meanwhile I'm rushing my ninjas back to the foglands to bust out my prisoners. Thankfully the fog men decided to munch on various holy men first, managed to bust the captured people out and set them back in mongrel to heal up. Intense stuff, but I like how even though I "lost" that fight I can easily recoup and actually be stronger for it due to the skills earned during the fights and the toughness gains from getting beaten up.

My all Shek, all-heavy weapons crew is turning out to be surprisingly effective. Turns out being able to do massive sweeping strikes is pretty useful against the groups of enemies you come up against early game, who'd have thought. I can already wipe those 25+ size Dust Bandit camps with relative ease by day 13. Obviously have some issues fighting stronger, single enemies like Beak Things, but I'm planning on getting a couple polearm users to handle that eventually. Edit: Ten heavies, four polearm users, five hackers and a pack animal should be a fun squad. Broken Cog fucked around with this message at 10:22 on Feb 4, 2019 |

I decided to cheat some stuff, and I got some training dummies that let you skill past 100. Let me tell you past like 250 strength, armorsmithing, or weaponsmithing your character starts to hulk the gently caress out. Had to visit a plastic surgeon and drop my character frame/bulk down to the minimum to resemble a normal being, and even then it's still kinda eh. Past 500 there's no fixing that. It is incredibly amusing though to watch a single character engage an entire squad and slice off every limb with their katana and leave untouched.

The Stone Rats are an amazing faction to set up shop next to earlygame. Their racket is fairly consistent, they all have high 30's-mid 40's stats, don't loot more than your food stash if they beat you, and best of all, they all use blunt weapons, so you're never really in any danger of being permanently crippled. Almost my entire squad is at 35+ toughness by day 30 just from their visits. Edit: The blunt weapons also doesn't seem to do enough damage to knock you very far into unconsciousness, which makes it easier to stand up and fight from playing dead state with certain downed characters you want to boost toughness with. This game is so good for emergent stories. I went into Heng and got my skeleton too close to one of the caravan guards. He flipped out and ignited a citywide riot that pulled my shinobi allies, some manhunters, slave traders and the city watch into a multi-day brawl. Within a short amount of time, everyone had forgotten why the fight started in the first place, but it was now open season for looting all the good poo poo in the shops! I robbed the bank on my way out and escaped with five or six leviathan pearls.

Holy crap I finally made it down to Shark with a squad of 6 guys. No action on the way down, and I was lucky enough to kill a couple swamp turtles for a huge amount of food. I like the trick where you just spam like 8 campfires and cook all the meat instantly. Anyway when I get to Shark I head straight to the bar, where I accidentally picked a fight with some thugs. I don't know if that kicked everything off or if it was unrelated, but all the sudden the Hounds just start ransacking the entire town. I start looting the fallen, which works for a while until the Hounds aggro me and knock out my squad. They pretty much ignore me and keep attacking the rest of the town, and a swamp raptor and some blood spiders join the party. Whenever I try to sneak around and get out of the fray I get attacked by the drat Hounds again, until I finally get Ruka up to the bar to start healing in the bed. I also hire some mercenaries to protect everyone while they're sleeping and patch us up. I manage to aggro the bar thugs again, and a single Hound attacks the bar. The mercenaries protect my one squad member and not the others, so we all get knocked unconscious again while they just stand there. Eventually I manage to carry my entire squad over to the bar. I recruit a free escaped slave Miu and hire a skeleton named Longstoat to help with this. A hound starts shooting at me from a turret, so I use Kang (who hired the mercenaries) to aggro them on the Hounds. This starts another huge war between the mercs and the Hounds. I steal everything I can, patch everyone up, and leave. The Hounds and the town and the Mercs were still fighting ferociously as I left. I'm gambling this nonsense game in the Mud Town Casino, plotting my next move. Now I need to escape the swamp and sell all this heavy gear.

Shark imploding into an orgy of violence is actually unintended behavior that they never fully fixed because it kind of feels right for a town run by gangs to collapse into an orgy of violence

Shark has been a bloodbath ever since the first time I stepped foot in it. On my first visit there, I stopped by looking for recruits and found a few of them amidst the chaotic gang fights that had erupted all over the village. After the Dancing Skeleton, I went to the 2nd bar with my new recruits, when suddenly a group of blood spiders rushed inside and started eating everybody. The few guards still conscious were already beaten up from gang fights so I tried my best to help them against the spiders. Eventually I won, although 5 out of my 6 people in town were now unconscious and severely wounded. I put them all in beds with my 1 remaining person (who also happened to be the only competent fighter in the group) and then went off to explore a nearby village while my recruits rested at the bar. Sure enough, before long another group of blood spiders showed up and killed everybody else in there and I didn't even notice until they started eating poor Hamut alive while he slept. I managed to get back before it was too late but I would say that that bar will not be receiving a good Yelp review from Hamut or Miu, even though I'm sure their gristle flaps weren't half bad.

Foglands are a lot of fun and good money. I turned squad sizes up to max. One point I came across a drifter being eaten by about 8 princes and their Entourage. I knocked off them out but a few. Ended up with 7 prince heads and 34 heavy heads.

I would suggest walls for any base that your going to have dudes working at while having the game focus somewhere else. Just wall them up and lock the gate when you leave. Seems to keep anyone left at the base out of trouble and give you more time to react to any problems.
