Half cover is worlds better than no cover, but yeah. The AI takes the best shot it can and will try to execute a wounded soldier, so if you have a soldier in half cover and there's three or more enemies able to shoot at them, it's quite possible you're going to lose that soldier. Basically, if you think of a soldier in full cover taking half as much damage as a soldier in half cover, you won't be far wrong. And a soldier in no cover takes 4x as much as one in half cover. Abilities that ignore cover are of course exceptions. Bremen fucked around with this message at 02:50 on Feb 3, 2019 |

That sniper position was really good, it just wasn't tenable with the hp your soldiers have right now.

Concerning what the game has told you about the shadowfall: when you first unlocked the fancy weapons Bradford told you they were one of a kind and gone forever if lost. However, since this mission ended by clearing the area and not by evac, you still have your shadowfall A helpful addendum to the above that the game never tells you to my knowledge: As said up thread, if someone dies with a modded/unique weapon or just gets knocked unconcious on a mission where you must evac to win you can carry have a soldier carry them when the soldier evacs and keep the gear/your soldier respectively.

For stabbing people you can pick 4 (the sword button on the action bar) and then select the target and square to attack from, rather than searching for a magic pixel.

I feel like the Psionics research (and other long-term research projects like it) is probably supposed to be saved until you have more than one scientist and can either double down to save time, or have it running on the back-burner while you do other things.

Y'know, the Cthulhu mention reminded me - anyone else was disappointed that they didn't go with rebooting Terror from the Deep in this game? Seemed such a natural progression after the first UFO - > XCOM.

Some people were but I honestly wasn't. Underwater environments get samey fast. The concept of TFTD sounds better suited for either DLC or an individual quest battle.

Apropos of nothing, I started playing XCOM again off the back of this lp, and am about to lose to the avatar timer, which is hugely embarrassing. Do either of the first missions for alien hunters or last gift give you timer reduction?

The one Nat and Tea deactivated just unleashes the alien rulers into your missions, which is the exact opposite of helping, and the other one that we'll see here gives you a free SPARK soldier

armor, and thus shred, didn't exist in xcom 1? the closest was shredder rockets % damage or heat ammo that was literally bluescreen rounds

You guys are doing great on this mission! You made the right choice on the hacking reward when you opened the cell door. That's a big boost for the hacking stat. That said, you do have a tech researching. I'm pretty sure you picked psionic research before this mission. Halving the time would be nice but the chance was too low. Looking forward to a smooth finale.

GeneX posted:Is there secretly a window there or did the snake actually spit poison through a wall I believe the snake venom arcs like a grenade, so I think the game logic was "it went through the second story window and then down near the cells". The graphics for it look like a straight line, though, so it appears to phase through the walls. If you'd had a soldier there with a grenade they might have been able to do something similar if you hunted down exactly the right pixel to aim at, and the AI is great at pixel hunting.

Yeah, one bit of jank about this game is that the animations often don't quite align with what is actually happening. Another example from this mission is that the Advent officer wasn't actually trying to shoot Funky through the wall, but when he was peeking around his cover, because of how high cover and firing lines work.

Even as a grenade, the closed door and solid wall should have kept the poison cloud off the VIP. Although the ability to determine when an AoE attack will affect something on the other side of a wall is one of the game's weakest pieces of code. (See also: the flamethrower-wielding purifiers from the expansion that, aside from having a grenade, are like the least dangerous thing you can find, but also occasionally will torch everyone through a solid wall) Also, 20 hacking is a lot! Specifically, hacking works like aim in the sense that you have a number, the difficulty (cover defense) is subtracted, and then 0-99 is rolled to see if your number hits. So everything just got 20 percentage points more likely to work for Emi. That 56% chance you looked at earlier in the episode? A 76% now. If you can get Emi one more of those she will eventually have a solid chance of making even the most difficult hack in the game, which is so hard that a normal Specialist should never even bother trying. controlling a Sectopod By comparison, getting a promotion gives Emi I think +5 hack.

Due to dark events I had 5 turns to extract a prisoner with the prisoner fairly far from the start at the back of a building. I dashed my squad for 3 turns until they were behind the building. Got everyone in cover, revealed myself by killing the commander of the nearest pod, took as many potshots as I could before using my last guy to grenade the building wall, freeing the prisoner. Then next turn I extracted everyone. Flawless mission with only 2 enemy kills

So thoughts : Reloading takes half a turn Firing takes half a turn BUT ends your turn Moving takes half or full turn. You can move and fire or reload and fire. But firing first always ends the turn. ——- Also using aid protocol without being in combat is not very good. ———- What happened with them not seeing you is buggy but you just activated it by tempting it later with your sniper. You were thinking of placing your sniper further back and that might've been the correct call. ———- Very nice combo kill with Grenade, combat protocol and shadow keeper. That is the way you should be thinking and acting. —— 20 plus hacking is awesome hope she don’t die. ——— Also very smart with aid on funky. ——— So far close to spotless mission. You do still take the occasional risky move like revealing on your last move. But it is understandable given the time limit. You do get a bizarre amount of enemy reinforcements.
