I haven't been a subscriber for a while. Are the writers still just people recapping shows? Those people should still be paid, mind, but do they have real writers that aren't Vinny, Bryan, and Dave now?

The writers could quit and there’d be a mile long line of dopes willing to type out poor bare minimum recaps of poo poo for free just so they can act like they’re friends with Dave. If there was writing of substance on there that people were being screwed over, I’d care more. Also, that practice means Babinsack probably didn’t make anything and I enjoy that.

It's not an act, if you do recaps for Dave, he's your friend. -Dave's Friend. I actually do think writers should be paid but I don't really know if me writing a recap of a house show or a TV taping here or there is worth money but that could just be my low self-esteem. I wasn't even really doing it for exposure, I didn't actually expect it to be printed I just thought it would be helpful for him to know how the show was.

I legitimately always thought the Raw/Smackdown recaps were written by one person (who obviously should be getting paid!) and everything else (house shows etc) were just fans sending in their thoughts on being there live.

As noted, for a long, long time, there was a ton of content from randoms like Babinsack who just emailed poo poo to Dave and he'd post whatever. That was eventually cleaned up with Dave no longer posting directly to the site. But when Tony tried to get the site modernized, because the Observer site had minimal real content throughout the day with basically zero search engine optimization while being full of bad headlines ("Raw Rating Was A..."), they made a concerted effort to bring people onboard to fill out the site throughout the day. So there's now much more of a "staff"—I don't like using that term when they're not getting paid, but I couldn't think of a better one—than there was in the Babinsack et al era. Who should be paid.
