My ignorance would like me to believe I was just completely in the dark of what trans even was until maybe I was 20, but I probably laughed at bugs bunny cartoons and did poo poo that was evil and transphobic that I've conveniently forgotten about. I guess this is just the dem platform now, confess your sins while the right either laughs and says "SEE YOU ARE RACIST, JUST BE LIKE US" and yet proclaim themselves clean of any transgression even when they push the build a gas chamber in the wall bill.

So here's the thing, to actually fight racism in this country there has to be a reckoning. Part of that is white people coming out and admitting they done hosed up, usually on a personal level, as a lot of people aren't necessarily part of the systematic oppression. Part of coming out and admitting your lovely behavior means you may not be forgiven, you shouldn't expect to be forgiven and that has to be ok. These guys in Virginia are going to be examples to the next generation of what the gently caress not to do and it's going to be ugly and that has to be ok. Part of upending oppression is confronting that ugliness. I see people posting about dumb stuff they did as a teenager and while some seem genuinely sorry, others seem more worried they'll be held up as examples and confronted for their lovely behavior. We need those examples though, and part of making amends isn't just admitting you did wrong but listening to the voices of the people you hurt, even if you feel hurt in return by hearing them.
