Congrats! That's huge! I've had residency by marriage here for 10 years but the citizenship process is dragging on and on. I did the in-person interview almost a year ago and all they do is keep sending me more requests for papers I've already sent. I will prevail though!

The shuttles weren’t as big as I was expecting for something that went to loving space and stayed for up to 2 weeks...but those engine bells? A person could comfortably stand inside one of them  One of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen was a high-speed/HD video of the engines and boosters lighting/launching. It’s not an exaggeration to say they were ascending to the heavens upon pillars of flame. This covers about 15 seconds of real time, from the time the main engines are ignited until just after liftoff. The exhaust trail from the SRB is the most beautiful flame I’ve ever seen  https://youtu.be/mEQI4lpdJGI

Well drat. I’m in Fairfax now, and leaving tomorrow morning (snow willing). I also went to the National Aquarium today. This weekend was essentially my farewell tour to DC, I’ve got friends from my time at AppState, my time at the NC coast, and from the army up here, and it’ll be a long while before I come back here...seeing as how I’m moving to FL sometime soon to go work for the park service 😎 This big toothy grin is from a sand tiger shark. Sand tigers give birth to love young, but only one at a time. Multiple embryos are fertilized, but they kill each other in the womb (“intrauterine cannibalism” is one of the most brutal biology terms I’ve ever come across) so that only 1 is born.  This pic was accepted for the staff art show at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher. This is a sand tiger in the wild, on the wreck of the Hyde. The Hyde was sank as an artificial reef in the 1980’s, and is a popular destination for shark diving. I took this in August of 2017 (I think?)
