, Disney is really trumpeting the idea of the Empire as a valid political alternative that was simply mislead by a bad apple and his enforcers. That was certainly what Lost Stars was doing, and it's pretty gross.

I dont think that's what Lost Stars was doing. The Empire is pretty clearly depicted as horrible. At the beginning of the book, the Imperial Academy ruins the friendship between the two main characters with the sabotage of their laser cannon project, they both watch the Empire destroy Alderaan, the Empire's enslavement and abuse of aliens is what makes Thane defect, and Ciena has to watch her mom be convicted in a show trial and sentenced to hard labor for a crime she didnt commit.

Lost Stars doesnt have anything good to say about the Empire at all, and a lot of is is about how a decent person like Ciena can serve a government that she's become more and more convinced is immoral.

Noo, the Empire is depicted as justified in pretty much everything it does. The main characters and many supporting characters excuse it, with Thane even acknowledging that Ciena's extreme loyalty to the empire is the right call because it's such a fundamental aspect of her character. This goes on until the literal last page of the book, and it's a complete capitulation to the ideas that blind obedience i.e. just following orders is sacrosanct and that good people can do the work of fascists while remaining good.

Lost Stars isn't a warning that decent people can serve immoral governments, because Ciena is not "good" by any kind of calculus. She just leans more and more into genocidal fascism while Thane grows more and more in love with her.

Black Spire Outpost has long been frequented by smugglers, merchants, and travelers from every corner of the galaxy looking to make their score on the infamous black market — or experience the exotic thrills the remote world of Batuu alone has to offer. Aliens like the infamous Dok-Ondar, a proprietor of rare and one-of-a-kind antiquities, thrive on the unique opportunities which abound on the lawless outpost at the very edge of Wild Space in this all-new miniseries from Marvel writer Ethan Sacks (Old Man Hawkeye) and artist Will Sliney (Solo: A Star Wars Story).

I'll check out Dawson's new book if it doesn't use tedious alternating flashbacks. Phasma is hardly the worst offender but way too many books are using a format that makes things worse. Del Rey needs new editors or something.

This. Like in order to understand a theme park I need to read a book now? How about just focusing on making it a fun experience instead? They're probably doing both, but it just seems so redundant.

I think there's actually a good chance of that. We know it's a place the Falcon goes after TLJ, there will be a battle there between the First Order and Resistance with X-wings and the Falcon, and it's a forested setting... all of which have appeared in the set photos from IX. Not to mention we already had several Galaxy's Edge references in Solo, and they seem to be going into ludicrous speed with its marketing this year, what better way to market it by having it be the planet of the Ultimate Showdown of Good and Evil in the Skywalker Saga?

It's okay, the horse has horns, so it's Star Wars-y enough, I guess. The shield is weird, though.

There are a few that have been released since the continuity reset, especially in 2014/15, but they were all in development prior to the reboot. I think this is the first piece of Legends stuff that was specifically commissioned post-reboot.

It also depends on what you classify as Legends, as Disney has released plenty of non-canon SW story material in their reign so far. Usually more kids geared content, but its out there.

I think the idea is that Legends was the storyline/continuity of the expanded universe until 2014, as opposed to just anything non-canon that was released. But then there's also stuff like the Lego Star Wars Adventures (or whatever their name is) which were non-canon under Legends but had their own sort of internal continuity, and which continued to be put out without interruption through the canon reset.

I think there have also been some post-2014 non-canon stuff that also had Legends-continuity characters in it, wasn't there some mobile game that included some KOTOR characters in it?

Galaxy of Heroes has KOTOR characters in it. And yeah, that's not really a canon story, it's people in game playing with holographic characters, which is why you can have a team with 5 different versions of Han on it.
