lol gonna real post because I worked for apple back in 2017, via Insight Global. These apex dudes had it made compared to us. I got paperwork and poo poo that proves I'm for real (a moron for agreeing to work for silicon valley) that I'll share with a responsible adult or failing that some mod.

Not only did you never get to go to the apple campus, you probably would have been fired if you go anywhere near it. You were not an apple employee, straight up and down. I'm not supposed to list ANYTHING about apple on my resume. No id badges were issued.

Can confirm first thing you are told at orientation (in another "black site" at 3420 Gateway Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538. The building was under construction when we used it, so no bathrooms for us plebs!) is that "feel absolutely free to quit whenever and we will fly you home same day no hard feeling because we will fire you if you cause one single bad tweet". Apparently they have teams of interns looking for negative tweets about the project.

Sometimes they made fired employees take the bus home...across the entire country. If they didn't like you.

Authentic college experience of sharing a double hotel room with whoever a recruiter 2,000 miles away thought was cool. Of course, accommodations were made for LGBT, people with medical conditions, and other reasonabl.....ahahahaha no go gently caress yourself. They made a women with a broken leg stay on the second story of a motel with no elevator. I had a roommate that would wake-up screaming in the middle of the night because of sleep apney.

Let fox news know that we were a part of the truly poor, because they would specifically ask for rooms without fridges and microwaves. The rationale was that we got a per diem (25 bucks a day, which as a food budget in a normal situation isn't bad. But you can't exactly buy bags of rice and beans and keep light enough to travel with a few hours notice. And one trip to whatever chain restaurant in walking distant could wipe you out) and because it would "set expectations".

They hired anyone. I mean people without driver's licenses. We had a background checks done by some company that looks like it mostly handles non-union actors. I never met so many creepy combat vets and random 20 somethings from Atlanta.

Hotels and motels so nice that as soon as I could I sneaked back into my home state and bought a handgun and kept it under my pillow the rest of my time there. I was not the only person with a gun on the project.

Pay was 15 dollars an hour and whatever your homestate laws said about overtime. They, of course, pulled most of the employees from states with poor protections.

They should have spent some of that money they saved on better lawyers, because it turns out that if you work in California, you get California protections and overtime. They fought paying us until literally a day before a massive penalty would have kicked in. I'm still getting checks. A google search would have told Insight Global that Oracle just got in trouble for that same exact scheme a few months earlier.

How your time on the project came down to your D.C. I had one that would try to triple people up in rooms, mandatory team dinners, morning exercise. Also dock pay for bathroom breaks, which I believe is SUPER ILLEGAL. I mostly had bosses that didn't give a poo poo as long as you didn't make trouble. I spent almost all of my time in California, so crooked dispensaries jumping the gun on sales to out of state people kept me level. By the end I was just openly smoking an hash oil pen while driving because I didn't file useless complaints to powerless recruiters so I was golden.

Your D.C. (drive coordinator, your local manager. They got 70,000 salary and their own rooms...at first. The good ones put in 70-80 hour weeks. They got a very slight pay raise, but had to double up like the rest of us. They were insight global too, but on a different contract. Everyone was promoted up from the same pool of peons.) was in charge, but if you had a problem, you had to go to the recruiter. They had no power expect to get you in trouble for calling them too much. Problems ranging from hotels with bed bugs to incidents of sexual assault were just ignored.

A guy faked a death in the family, got sent home indefinably and, by just asking people who knew on the project, kept reporting hours that looked about right into ADP. He got paid for months that way. Too bad they caught him.

Speaking of the DCs, one of them was a completely out of control vet by the name of Shawn. Shawn got promoted because our regional was also a combat vet (kept a loaded ar-15 in his rental car as he inspected storage units for suitability). This was despite numerous complaints from his roommates, constant lying, and having three incidents while driving. He went on to rape one of his employees.

...Only got fired because she threaten to go to cops
...and only after chewing out the head of H.R. after she (!) offered him another position (!!!!) in the company.
I suggest now, now is the time to bring up how out of control #metoo is.

also someone I knew died because they never bothered to get rid of a guy so dangerous that was bounced around teams like a mentally unstable potato.

Google and Apple hosting Saudi app for tracking women

Technology is supposed to make life easier, but that's not always the case. For women living in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, smartphones have made it harder to escape from abusive families and a social system that restricts their choices. Now, activists including Human Rights Watch are calling on Google and Apple to pull an app published by the Saudi government that helps men keep track of women and prevent them from leaving the country.

Using the app, guardians can register dependent women, grant travel privileges, and blacklist certain destinations or airports. Crucially, if a woman deviates from her approved travel profile, the guardian gets an alert on his phone. Saudi women attempting to leave the country have started devising ways to steal their guardian's phone or reset the Absher password to give themselves travel authorization.

Apple and Google accused of helping 'enforce gender apartheid' by hosting Saudi government app that tracks women and stops them leaving the country

The Saudi Ministry of the Interior's "Absher" app lets men give women permission to travel, and it provides men with SMS alerts to let them know when women use their passports at borders.

Apple and Google have been criticized by rights groups for hosting Absher, an app that allows men in Saudi Arabia to track and control where women travel.

Absher is a Saudi government website, which INSIDER reported on at length last week. It is available on Google Play and iTunes and has been downloaded more than 1 million times.

A girl a couple of years younger than me came to my house one day trying to sell me all the smart home poo poo and I couldn't really explain to her in terms she could understand why I didn't want it. I don't want all my devices to have to connect through some company's website or web API to run my stuff, especially when every one of these tech companies will be gone in a couple of years.

She said "well it connects to the internet using cell towers" and I was like yeah that's not my issue. It's that what they have to connect to won't exist. I finally just told her I couldn't afford it and she moved on.

quote:

In October 2018, Makenna Kelly became the topic of outraged videos after she uploaded a role-play entitled “ASMR – SASSY Police Officer / Cop”.

In the video, Kelly wore a police officer costume and knee-high boots while wielding a baton. Her “sassy” behaviour – smacking her lips, singing the Pussycat Dolls song “Don’t Cha” and talking about Tinder dates – was interpreted as sexual by some viewers.

Her mom helped her script and make the video which is a normal and good mother-daughter bonding activity.

quote:

Lacy is no cliché pageant mum. Lounging on the sofa with wet hair and a grey T-shirt emblazoned with a peace sign, she sits back, scrolling on her phone, to let her child speak candidly. She does not push Makenna to answer in a favourable way, nor is she pushing her daughter into stardom in pursuit of fame or riches. “She makes significantly more money than I do and works significantly less than I do,” laughs Lacy, sitting with her legs tucked underneath her on the large brown suede sofa in the middle of the family’s modest apartment.

Child Pageants offer far less potential fame and money for far more work and there are still plenty of parents who are willing to force their children through that. This, unfortunately, doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.
