It’s only one very short scene so far, but right now the genie is just so STATIC. So sedate! Not just him, but the camera. A genie with no energy.

Also, the shot of Aladdin and Jasmine clasping each other’s hands is funny. Imagine grabbing someone’s hand so slowly.

Will Smith Genie reminds me of the CGI Rock in Mummy 2.

I guess they didn't want to make him too cartoony/unrecognizable but boy did they go about it the wrong way.

Mummy 2 is ILM going "hey we can do this now" and with the movie viewer going "maybe you shouldn't have"

edit: I hope there's a point where he runs out of songs he knows 100% and has to make up lyrics, which causes his popularity to slip.

Well, it does have his wife dancing in the woods which apparently was the inspiration for Beren and Luthien's story.

IIRC, Beren and Luthien is actually written on their tombstones.

It is a definitely as strange thing to remake. George Clooney is no Orson Wells. However, it does have a solid cast. Casting Hugh Laurie is sheer brilliance. If there was ever someone who should be in an adaptation of Catch-22, it is Hugh Laurie. A modern day version might have been a more interesting take.

It's been a long while since I've watched it but I thought the concensus was that the previous Catch 22 film was not great, so going back to the well and making a good film from the book would be tempting. Also, America is still in a fair number of forever wars it's getting sick of, so there's that market.
