He basically ignores the New Deal because it's easier to make his point by comparing it to WW2. And then he says... projects are often inefficient and people will push back against them. Clearly this means we should resort to half measures.

My impression is that the Boy Scouts tend to do a lot more "cooler" things like way more camping, wilderness stuff, first aid, knot tying, etc. Girl Scouts tend to be more like a social club, occasionally there is outdoor stuff, but not the level the Boy Scouts do. At least this is what my wife told me about her time in Girl Scouts.

I could see that. Which is a real shame. How about a non-gendered outdoor club for kids? They could all learn how to how sew, tie knots, and hike an camp and pitch tents and poo poo.

But, no, we'd better keep them separate and unequal because that's how its always done.

Depends on the troop of course, but most of the former girl scouts I have talked to (and as a former BSA dude it's been a lot) they almost universally hated the experience because it was mostly a weird mix of housewife poo poo and cookie selling. But some differ.

And yeah a lot of BSA troops are poo poo, I saw a lot of militaristic groups when I worked at a camp but a lot are also very good and focused on conservation. And hey, they actually do poo poo outdoors. BSA has had issues in the past but gays and atheists are fine, and they let trans kids in before girl scouts did

Coed groups did exist before BSA let girls in, but they were restricted to people older than 18 that entered "venture crews". If you ever see an older kid with a forest green uniform that is what that is

There's no putting that genie back in the bottle. The best we can realistically do is require stringent ongoing security testing and mandate updates when vulnerabilities are discovered so that companies can't just deploy something to the field and forget about it.

There is probably no way to completely stop a determined state actor which will deploy an array of previously unknown 0-day exploits, but doing the above would make attacks much more expensive because any exploit used would get patched out in a hurry which would reduce the temptation to deploy them in all but the most dire situations.

What gets me is the details like "near the end of the period" where he basically is saying that as it wasn't technically time to leave yet so she shouldn't have been upset about being blocked by his "absent minded" antics.
"This girl he really didn't know told him to stop" is his defense for not stopping, because why would you listen to the request of someone who you don't know well?

We did some camping and hiking, though not a ton, mostly because there was a little girl in a wheelchair in my troop, and the leader kinda tailored our activities to include her as much as possible. But we also did other stuff like dancing, singing, arts and crafts, going to museums and other cultural things, etc. Idk, personally I liked it all, and it was cool to be exposed to a range of stuff like that at a young age. Plus I liked the uniform.
