Colorado and Florida I'm raising one eyebrow at you. (I'd add Oklahoma but I'm guessing that's a specific porn series that I've never heard of rather than a general fetish)

I could point out Connecticut, or Maine, or even Montana. But let's discuss Delaware's innocent pureness in searching for "Skin".

Some lakes were designated "for making GBS threads only, no fishing or swimming" in ancient Finland. That's why they're named like that.

Brawnfire posted:Are the lakes not very nice there? It's usually a moniker reserved for bog ponds. The word "paska" is traditionally used kind of in the same fashion as "soiled" in English, so it might either mean someone literally took a dump in a pond or it might just refer to kind of murky water. In both Sweden and Finland places where Finns settled have quite a lot of fun names like oval office swamp and poo poo hill etc. Which in many cases was also named such because it was a lovely useless swamp in the middle of the forest or a steep annoying hill.

I like to think some of the rude toponymy might also be jokes pulled on cartographers. My favorite odd name is Onpahanvaanlampi which translates to "It'sjusta pond." I can imagine an exasperated cartographer thinking "gently caress it, if they don't have a better name for it, that'll have to do."

Kennel posted:Just google "mämmi" and enjoy the only true Easter dish. quote:Mämmi is traditionally made of water, rye flour, and powdered malted rye, seasoned salt, and dried powdered Seville orange zest. The mixture is then allowed to go through a slow natural sweetening process before being baked in an oven until set with Maillard reaction. Preparation takes many hours, and after baking the mämmi is stored chilled for three to four days before being ready to eat. i'm sure it tastes good and all but honestly it looks a whole lot like poo.

Was one knife like 50 cents lol I dunno definitively but I'm pretty certain they could be used just one at a time (besides, the same coins were used as far as Korea and Japan too since they traded with Yan, and I highly doubt they would be used consistently in that way over the entire region). I dunno why they drew them on the map like that, maybe it's easier to identify or something. Denominations of currency were apparently not a thing until later in the period, too. another one:
