Came across a stonetoss in the wild. Luckily they did their own research after I said "hey that dude is racist" and found this imgur gallery full of receipts.

Hmm... Although I guess the clown car isn't exactly unique imagery. Also nice headdress sticking out of the driver window on Varvel's toon, there. Might be too soon to call it a trend, but I feel like Branco started removing references to SOCIALISM in favor of references to COMMUNISM .

tbh as a trans person the most offensive thing about that stonetoss comic is the lack of an iced coffee in the last panel.

I was too young in 2008 to really know the difference, but weren't there plenty of Democratic hopefuls 20 months out from the election? Isn't that kind of normal for the non-incumbent party at the end of a second term, for there to be several candidates that gradually withdraw before the primaries? All these clown-car cartoons feel like thin-skinned projection after the 2016 GOP lineup.

Something hilarious: divorced from context, all of these cartoons with Warren in a headdress make it seem like the cartoonist is super angry that someone with confirmed native ancestry would dare dream of running for president against the white man.

It has gotten bigger over the years, probably because 24 hour news and social media make it easier for lesser known candidates to make a splash. In 2008 I think there were about ten Democrats running, and nearly as many Republicans since there was no clear successor to Bush.

In Feburary 2007, which is the equivalent to February 2019 in this election cycle, the Democratic field was: Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Bill Richardson, Tom Vilsack, Dennis Kucinich. Clinton/Obama/Edwards were the clear top 3 based off $$$. Other than the fact that in 2007, the Dems had what most considered a clear favorite (Clinton, oopsie-doodle), it's not that much different than this cycle. And, unlike the GOP the last few cycles, mostly devoid of grifter knuckleheads and marginal freaks. Mostly.

Power worshiping authoritarians get off on symbols of industry. What’s funny about that is that there’s no way to run a rail network without central planning. There aren’t many industries less compatible with libertarianism.
