I was playing a werewolf game at a college potluck a while ago, it was fun. Don't recall what it was called, but it was a bluffing board game where people got assigned roles including one werewolf and you had to figure out who was the bad guy without murdering innocents.

Was it a card game? I think that's derived from Mafia or something.

They both impulsively kickstart or buy dozens of these 2-300 dollar board games, play them once or twice and then move on to the next one. I'll enjoy one and want to play it again but they've already moved on before we had the chance to actually enjoy the last one. I'd probably be open to playing them more if it didn't involve learning a new game every time. Buying them is like crack to some people.

I had a mate like that, he'd show up to the weekly board game night back in Uni every week with a new game. Some where lemons, some where great. Thing is, he whouldn't want to play the great ones again, because he was always in need of people to try out his 2-3 new unplayed games. All. The. Time. He eventually curbed the habit a bit, got his own board game published (!), got a kid and slowed down. Last I checked he still had a multiple bookcases, spanning an entire wall, floor--to-ceiling with board games. It'd be an amazing library and an opportunity to be a hub for the community, but he's too busy now with kids. Irony.

I did that for a while and then stopped and then the packages came in and now I have enough board game poo poo for my life I think, just in like 5 games Also more board games should be designed for easy setup and cleanup. I got this game Argent and it is really cool but also the setup is absurd. Board games are so lovely about organization that there are companies who can stay afloat just selling replacement boxes and inserts for the games. Gloomhaven is the only game I've seen in that ~boutique board game~ market that has decent box organization.

Monopoly would probably be better with a kinetic 3D element added to it. Like you land on free parking, turn a crank and send your friend to jail by means of an elaborate plastic rube goldberg machine set up in the empty center of the board

Newest version of D&D was made with the help of an abusive rapist and huge bullying rear end in a top hat who's finally getting his #MeToo moment and the lead designer covered for him despite it being an open secret for years, and they're stripping the credits for ALL contributors from the books to try to cover it up. (said contributers also include a bunch of alt-right adjacent types and general awful people too) That and D&D itself (especially the latest edition) is widely considered a terrible entry point for the tabletop roleplaying hobby, it's the RPG equivalent of Monopoly. All the groups everyone actually likes (like the popular streamers) either homebrew it heavily or move on to other, better designed games.
