I’m interested in knowing if these Umbrella Academy impressions have read the comics or not.

The stakes get raised to insane levels and it just lands, every episode. I'm almost worried that season 4 won't be able to keep it going as well.

It’s been awhile since I have felt anxiety for characters like I did during Episode 5 and 6. I don’t want to say anything else but I was on the edge of my seat heart pounding during those two episodes specifically. I have no knowledge of anything from the books so I’m going in blind and I’m glad I did.

Since I'm not into Resident Evil at all, I never read them.

The Umbrella Academy comic is a whole lot more quirky and surreal. The first issue has the children saving Paris from a steam-powered mecha piloted by an undead Gustav Eiffel. I do like the series just straight giving us No. 1 living in on the moon, a robot mother and a talking butler chimp without explanation though.

Umbrella Academy is xmen with powers almost never used, mysteries no one bothers to solve, and music used like a clumsy bludgeon. I love you they might be giants but holy poo poo that was poorly used.

Anyone with AIM nostalgia should check out the games Emily is Away and Emily is Away 2 on steam. The first one is free but they're both worth playing imo. They are both stories about transitioning from high school to college and the heartaches that ensue, told via a choose your own adventure game using AIM as the medium.

Happy as Lazzaro is an Italian magical realist film from last year that is pretty good and distributed by Netflix. The first half of it is just kind of a straightforward, rugged story about the experiences of sharecroppers in an isolated tobacco plantation, but after that halfway mark it veers into a fairy tale set in the modern day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNEtyax1wH8

For years I dismissed True Detective and even tried three times to watch the pilot but got bored because I wasn’t quite paying attention Been taking dabs and watching the first season this week after realizing I had already watched the first season of The Fall and wow, it’s super good. A little cheesy dialogue wise sometimes but the cinematography is legitimately gorgeous and the characters are both morally ambiguous and distinctive without going over the top with it too much. I gather the second season basically sucks though?

The second season of True Detective is so bizarrely different than the first that if there were no title credits I would never associate them with each other. In season 2 instead of a dreamy metaphysical Southern Gothic detective story we got a really boring-rear end LA organized crime storyline. I'm watching Season 3 now and I can report that it is much more like season 1 and pretty dang good.

I thought the 2nd season was largely okay, but definitely less focused and definitely a step down from season 1. Season 3 feels like a conscious effort to return to season 1 form, right down to the framing device, relationship between leads, and case theme. Season 3's plot hasn't been as engaging as season 1's, but Mahershala Ali has been absolutely stellar and, unless they completely flub the landing on sunday, is worth your time. Just finish season 1, jump straight to season 3, and then if you really want to be a completionist then watch season 2.

I watched season 1 of True Detective right after it concluded, all the way through, in a few days. Was totally blown away. I watched season 2 week by week and of course got some disappointment. Recently I rewatched season 1 for the first time and I realized just how loving upset I would have been if I'd been watching it as it aired. There are things that never pay off, all kinds of red herrings and dead ends, total bullshit, inconsistent characters. Season 1 is amazing because of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey and a variety of visual stuff. That's it.
