Communism will help more white people than anyone else. Any equal measures unfairly provide less to minority populations just because there's less of them. Democracy is truly the tyranny of the mob.

Tatami Galaxy is the only anime I can think of that is in some way about going to college, and it's incredible.

Wait, I just typed those words and remembered Silver Spoon, which is about an Ag trade school, and is also very fun.

There are certain anime’s that are aimed there but anime as a whole has no real unifying appeal. It’s like saying movies appeal to people.

Ironically in in the west the biggest groups are various minorities and women.

I think people forget that anime isn’t meant to appeal to Westerners first and was actually made......for the Japanese

Moyashimon is not only about going to college, but an agricultural college at that.

Trap sprung, I'm aware.

Exploration is ill-advised.
Anime often has some weird demographic stuff going on where it's aimed primarily at schoolgirls and secondarily at aimless adult men, because... Japan.

That said, genres like 'shonen', 'seinen' and 'shoujo' are literally named after their target demographic.

That said a lot of it is also nostalgia as high school is probably the last time most Japanese people remember being allowed a smidgen of individuality and having positive social interactions. Look at Aggressive Retsuko for a closer depiction of what adult life is like.

Highschool being a glory years isnt an exclusively Japanese thing. Im work in Japan in corporate environment but its also not particulalry any more soul crushing here than anywhere else except I can see Mt. Fuji taunting me from the office window.

Seems to me like that's more "I have a nice view from my office" and less soul-crushing, but I'm not there, I guess. At least it's better than another gray rectangle office building?

Isn't there a thing in Japan where being given an office by the window is the equivalent of being kicked upstairs?

Japan seems to have basically been ahead of the pack with the late capitalism grind where children are under immense amounts of pressure to succeed in arbitrary hoops and make connects to get what few opportunities for a stable middle-class life are left, and all too aware that any mistake or straying off that path could set them back for life. And a lot of them just plain give up after enough of those, and then you get hikkomori, 'herbivore men' and people who take being written off as surplus to requirements by society in interesting directions.

The grey rectangle building doesnt make me day dream about climbing it and not being in my office, but yes different folks would have different feelings towards the view.

That makes a lot of sense, the characters from that arc of the comic are much more believable and grounded than the parade of tropes in the rest.

You can never be too sure in these situations. I was browsing mods for a game the other day and noticed three of them catering to or based on weird porn I was acquainted with, and I started giving everything else the side-eye. This was just in the public-facing Steam Workshop where everything is ostensibly family-friendly.
