Personally I've got a lot of the same doubts about Bernie as I did in 2016-he's got ideas and has pushed the conversation left, but I still have doubts about how well he could manage to actually get them through Congress (also, being 87 at the end of his hypothetical second term is... not ideal). Honestly, I like Warren. She's got good ideas and big ideas (wealth tax hell yeah), and while she's had some missteps none of them have really been that big. And as for facing Trump... I mean let's be honest, the big reason why Sanders and Trump did so well in 2016 was because of Clinton. Warren wouldn't have that same baggage, and I don't think any of the Democratic contenders are going to have a problem winning the general considering how narrow Trump's 2016 victory was in the first place. e: also Warren has an official campaign dog so what I'm saying is that I'm donating now https://twitter.com/ewarren/status/1097494141234229254?s=19

Eh, I think that without Clinton and the DLC crew riding herd (or not doing so as stridently as they were before 2016) the whole "not a real democrat" thing isn't going to be as big. The party as a whole has moved closer to his positions so it's hard to say he's outside the mainstream anymore. I think his main weakness is that he's not running far enough to the left to distinguish himself any more. Even Harris is on board with ending cash bail, legal weed, Medicare for All, and $15/hr minimum wage if not higher. She may have zero credibility in speaking about those things but she's got a boatload of money and celebrity backers to paper that over. Bernie, meanwhile, is going to seem too moderate for a portion of his former base at this point - $15 an hour isn't livable in a lot of urban areas, Medicare for All was already being panned as not being robust enough when it was brought up shortly after 2016, legal weed is table stakes at this point, ending cash bail is already something spreading at the state/county/muni level - and where he was seen previously as a force to pull the party left like the DSA, he's not taking up the slack now that they've shifted leftward. Beyond being a symbol/messenger, that's not going to be enough for the permanent-revolution types. He's still the best comprehensive option and has the popularity to be a frontrunner, but I bet it'll come down to the wire.

My biggest draw to Bernie is that he has said the same message for decades. How many of the new bandwagon jumpers are just making the popular mouth noises with no intention of actually following through and fighting those fights? We're at multiple crisis points as a nation and a species, there is negative amounts of time to deal with this poo poo, and no more room for "hope and change and change of hope for change oops bankers blew everything the gently caress up better give them money and let them off the hook."
