They're apparently not purchasable with real money and only as level up rewards but I'll believe that in 3 months if they haven't sneaked them in as microtransactions the second the games media has stopped paying attention.

Yeah you don't design a game with loot boxes unless you plan on charging customers money. Going to bet the open beta is awarding excess 'Trial Bucks' so you can get easy access to lootboxes, and the final release will charge money gently caress loot boxes.

the new call of duty 67 slow rolled loot boxes into the game best part is you could earn them before this update, now they can only be purchased (the "loot" in this game is beyond trash tier, but it's still hilarious)

It also came with an expansion that removed all gatcha and was roughly infinitely better than the main game so maybe not.

People were hyped, but if anyone still is they're not paying attention. Here's my "say something nice" about Anthem, though: everybody who did animation and sound design for the mech suits deserves a huge loving raise (and deserves to have worked on a better game). They've done a truly fantastic job of animating the suits, with lots of nice little touches like just the perfect amount of delay before your thrusters kick in when you sprint, or the explosive burst of initial speed when you start to fly, the sound of your suit's engines and metal joins as you run around and fly, the way you change position as you strafe and turn mid-air, it's all incredibly good. Even better, it's different for every mech suit, which helps make sure they all feel really different to play on the most basic level. The rest of the game doesn't live up to that work (including the sound design and animation for a lot of other things, like the guns) but it's extremely high-quality work and I hope that once this team inevitably downsizes those animators and sound designers get snatched up immediately by a more competent studio.

The camera spinning by itself when a game launches mean it isn't properly identifying the controller you're using; You might need to remap the buttons or try another configuration entirely.

I have one friend who has been super super hype for Anthem since the moment it was announced. He has never not been excited for it. I'm pretty sure he got the Origin early access thing specifically for Anthem, he's been playing it for the past week. He loves it and was super excited for it leading up to release. I'm gonna try the game, since I got it free with my new video card anyway, but like... I do not understand where his excitement and hype is coming from. I mean there's that guy recently who got banned from Fallout 76 because of collecting too much ammo, because he put like 900 hours into the game and even the devs thought that seemed fishy. Every game is gonna have one or two really hype fans

everyone likes different things so it doesn't really surprise me that these super huge games with big marketing pushes and massive audiences at least hook a couple of die hard fans, but with things like anthem and fallout 76 and andromeda and insert recent disastrous video game launch here, products that are just overwhelmingly agreed upon to be lovely games, it really feels like the real explanation it's 50% blind zeal and 50% "it's not blood it's victory wine"

Yeah I know people like this but I feel like I can't invest my time in any MMO thing anymore, just too much time invested into something that doesn't really give back much to the grindfest for poo poo loot in the same 10 Strikes. The replay value for stuff like RE2 or Devil May Cry just seem more alluring since I can play those in bursts and actually have fun doing it. So much of the console MMO shooters force you to do unfun poo poo which is a big problem. When a game feels like a fuckin job I'm out.

Yeah I think Warframe would be that game, but I really don't like Warframe and don't understand the hype around it. I don't like the design of the characters or the world. It's just an appealing looking/cool universe in my opinion, but that is entirely subjective and personal preference.
