Office Pig posted:these idiots in action is like some rapid form of speciation nobody asked for I'm getting an immense sense of schadenfreude, this is the same kind of asinine attention-whoreing drama that went on endlessly in early 2000s Otherkin circles, just dialed up to 15,000 and actually playing out on the national stage. Everybody thinks their a heroic General leading the fight against evil- when in reality its all just a bunch of embarrassing LARPing that blurs the line between reality and delusional fantasies. At least we had the good sense to fight our LARP battles against pretend demons in the middle of the night in state forests and the like. Thank loving god this all occurred before the age of smartphones and everybody recording everything, I can think of at least a dozen people who must all be secretly grateful that no video evidence of that nonsense exists.

BrutalistMcDonalds posted:the situation is getting serious for loomer and ali Lol This is basically a Three Stooges short. The action opens with Larry, Shemp, and Moe in a hipster coffee shop. Moe overhears a conversation at a table of liberal Somali jews discussing how they love Donald Trump so much that they want to abort a conservative as a blood sacrifice in his honour. Moe panics, and hijinks ensue.

Doc Hawkins posted:I really want to see the next page, since the hero opens the comic with severely crippling a bunch of "poor and minority people in the community." IMO it's really telling how even their colorfully patriotic superhero is written more like a gritty brutal antihero. I mean I understand stuff like that is a bit of a trend since certain acclaimed comics subverted the usual superhero tropes, Watchmen is referenced for example, but the kind of fascist thought behind something like Lonestar doesn't really allow for the imaginative freedom to consider its inspirations as just a genre; it takes them as a breakthrough, an improvement, the new standard that aligns the storytelling medium more closely with "reality".

also like, the whole thing about The Watchmen was that these people are fundamentally broken and society is better off without them as they do at least as much harm as good it's not quite as fun as watching a reactionary try to square their beliefs with an interest in transhumanism tho

They write them as gritty anti-heroes because that is what they see themselves as. It's the same edgelord "if they see us as evil, then so be it" aesthetic the Dark Enlightenment dweebs embraced fully. something something about concentration camp guards in WWII doubling down on their evil when they knew the end was near because they needed to embrace something, anything to feel justified in being bad people. Everyone knows Rorschach is bad, even the people who embrace him, and they embrace him because he's a lovely person that lets them pretend their own shittiness is a virtue.
