You arrest Don Jr at the last possible moment knowing that doing so probably means the termination of your investigation within 24 hours.

The docs are in, but they don’t explicitly ask for a certain sentence. They lay out all the poo poo Manafort did as context for his sentencing.

I mean sure if I actually try and sell my fake money the only people who will buy it are people like me who will only buy it at a massive discount compared to that speculation price and if I sell too much at once I can crash the entire market but on paper I am speculated to be rich! I have to keep mining!

ewiley posted:Just out of curiosity, what is Don Jr supposed to be charged with? Lying to FBI about the Trump Tower meeting about 'adoptions'? I mean, it MIGHT have been about adoptions, but that actually would probably be just as bad. The Magninski Act enacted huge sanctions aimed at Russian oligarchs, and Russia responded by banning Americans from adopting Russian children. "Adoptions" was supposed to be a legal discussion topic that masked the illegal possibly treasonous one, which was shadowy backdoor international negotiations proposing sanctions relief in return for Russia's help to Trump in the campaign. It was a spectacularly stupid smokescreen since it was basically the exact thing he was being accused of. This is why the guy who broke the story wrote: "I spent months investigating this and he just... tweeted it out." I'm surprised no one ever talks about this.

A huge chunk of bitcoin mining is done with hydro (it's super cheap right next to dams and/or in China) so at least it's renewable. Bitcoin should still die, not for its energy but because it has no non-criminal applications.

Banks and payment processors can blacklist legal industries they find morally dubious (pornography and marijuana) and a convertible alternative currency is the most simple workaround. Also doesn't work with marijuana because transactions are still tightly regulated where legal. That's literally the only edge case I can think of and does not require the sleeve currency to be crypto.
