It just seems a bit odd seeing someone like McCoy, who I assume is in his 50s, using a joke that you'd be unsurprised to see in a twitch stream's chat. It's the sort of joke that could actually be almost funny with two trans people and the deliverer doing a funny voice to make fun of the idea of saying that but from McCoy it's poo poo. Also gently caress's sake Rall you did an almost tolerable comic and decided to recharge your poo poo batteries by being homophobic as gently caress.

You know, men not being allowed to engage in any kind of flirtation at all without it being sexual harassment and only women being allowed to instigate relationships is probably meant to be a "social justice gone too far" thing but this comic is making a really solid case for it by showing us the inside of rallstons head who seems to be regularly thinking about gently caress killing women. Me and my friends use "gay for" occasionally but the fact rall isnt lgbt and is for sure using it unironically based on his ouvra is really gross.

Here's something I don't get. So Rallston tells us that flirtation has to be started by an aggressive woman, but when Julia does approach him and says she seems aggressive he says he should "turn her in." For what? Is it acceptable for women to approach men or not? The thought-crime rules in this world are inconsistent.

idonotlikepeas posted:A dystopia is also generally intended to be a warning about something that might plausibly go wrong, either literally or metaphorically. (Was Bradbury actually worried that our society would literally develop a group of people whose sole job it was to burn books? Maybe not, but he thought we were basically burning them already.) No "basically" about it. Bradbury started gestating the idea of Fahrenheit 451 in 1949, shortly after the first big comic book burnings. He then revised and expanded it as HUAC took off; by the time the novel came out in 1953, Americans were burning books by "dangerous intellectuals".

Like... I kinda agree with this. Not because I think it's reasonable to equate infanticide with abortion. But the right has convinced people of that. The fact that Republicans get to say "at least we aren't the baby killers!" convinces a lot of people who need M4A and stronger welfare system's to vote against their best interest. I find the idea of rolling back women's rights unpalatable, especially since it'd be going against Supreme Court precedent, but M4A and GND feel a bit more pressing.

Yeah, I've never encountered anyone that was previously going to vote for a Democrat suddenly change their mind because of Sean Hannity yelling "The party of infanticide!" after every commercial break. It's definitely having its intended effect, though - it's making existing pro-lifers riled up enough for them to actually leave the house on election day and be a guaranteed Trump vote in 2020. That's the intention of most pro-life propaganda out there, I'd reckon.

The stupid loving thing is that NYC has four million private sector jobs and a 4% unemployment rate. It’s not loving 2009. But cynical-rear end politicians will still cry “JOBS!!!” to thwart anything resembling social progress. As for JFK saying “ask what you can do for your country”, somehow it never occurs to conservatives that “your country” means “the people in your country”. What part of whining all day about how you want your taxes cut along with somebody else’s services is “doing” something for “your country”. And since nobody’s mentioned it, I don’t think, “manhole” actually is an unnecessarily gendered word that could stand to be updated.

Yeah, and in the future where abortion is banned and they're still as lovely as they were before (and even more thanks to the emboldening), will you argue to give up on welfare for the environment or vice versa? They can say whatever they want because they literally make poo poo up all the time (for instance nothing about abortion as is legally permitted in the US is even close to baby killing or infanticide).
