They should make a movie with Will Smith, Vin Diesel, and Tom Cruise just to see if it is even possible to write a script that meets all threes iron clad contract demands to be "on brand" at all times.

I think she should've been Oscar nominated for Mother!. Whatever you think of the movie, that was a committed performance.

I like how we're two trailers in now and still batting zero on actually seeing the Phoenix raptor effect. Like for people who haven't watched Apocalypse, they still think that Jean's just a souped-up Carrie and that's all there is to it. I guess that train part was pretty cool tho.

So I'm guessing that Mystique dying is part of what makes Beast go bad. If they'd not already established her in First Class, I'd assume that white-haired woman was Emma Frost, but presumably she's supposed to be Mastermind? Is it me or do the guards on the train have M.C.U patches? Real subtle there, guys.

Also, lol, People magazine has that spoiler just brazenly stated in the title of an article right now. Nobody cares about this movie.

IIRC the explanation is that they weren't there to be seen as superheroes but as representatives of a mutant organization.

Anyway the point is after finally teasing the costumes everyone wanted to see (the Jim Lee/90s cartoon costumes) they instead opt to skip them and have them be in the early 2000s costumes instead. And if First Class was 60s, DOFP was 70s, and Apocalypse was 80s, logically this should be the 90s but...??? I guess Simon Kinsberg doesn't like 90s X-Men as much as every other person on earth. The thing about every other Marvel movie has been that they really haven't done a movie with any of the heavy hitters other than Spider-man, they've mostly been second tier characters that nobody cares enough about to make a big stink over not getting every little detail right. The X-Men are kind of a different boat, but at least it seems like there's no way they could take more liberties with the source material than Fox has.

Apocalypse put them in generic body armor. New X-Men based costumes are a big improvement.

Who the gently caress do you consider "the heavy hitters" that hasn't been in a Marvel movie? Is your list just the entire X-men roster and Spider-man? Or are you one of those people who thinks the FF are still relevant?

Lurdiak posted:Who the gently caress do you consider "the heavy hitters" that hasn't been in a Marvel movie? Is your list just the entire X-men roster and Spider-man? Or are you one of those people who thinks the FF are still relevant? Pretty much. I mean there's a reason those are the rights that sold, because they're the rights that are the most iconic among Marvel's properties. Just because they're few doesn't mean they aren't substantially higher profile than the Avengers were prior to the awesome job the MCU has done developing movies for those characters. And when you think of most people's perception of the Avengers now, it's based on the movies much more than it is on any of the comics that informed them. I'm not saying they won't be good, I'm just saying that as they reclaim these rights there's going to be a much greater degree of scrutiny on them to get them right compared to a character even nerds had relatively little awareness of previously (like GoTG). If they decide to say mutants are a side effect of super soldier research like they did in the Ultimate line people who are only familiar with the 90s cartoon and some comics here and there (and there are a lot of those) may not be thrilled. But like I said in my last post, Fox sets a very low bar to get over.

I kind of felt like Apocalypse did away with the whole time period thing. Yes it takes place in the 80's but while the previous two films tried to integrate the X-Men into real world events, outside of some pop-culture references Apocalypse didn't do that at all. It could have been a generic "sometime in the future" thing and it wouldn't have felt out of place time period wise.

The skin bumps/texture was always stupid and never looked good. Like the whole point was if they gave her skin a texture they could sneak a perpetually naked lady into a PG13 movie but by covering her body with gross bumps they kinda defeated the purpose.
