i let it run overnight and woke up to the exact same pattern, but going clockwise this time it's on generation ~147k so it happened about 8.1 hours ago (its set to 200 mS per gen right now)

i tried it in a javascript conways game of life thing and it behaved very differently so it probably only works because the playfield is clipping anything outside the 8x8 cells instead of wrapping around
