edit - I’ve heard some hot takes today about how the SNC story proves that Trudeau is “racist towards English Canada” because he didn’t try and intervene when GM announced it was closing the Oshawa assembly plant or when oil patch workers were being laid off during the oil price collapse.

It ain't a race thing but going by JWR's testimony the rest of Canada does have reason to be upset. Quebec is the Liberals heartland and the way they were talking you could tell they view the 2019 election as primarily being determined by their ability to hold strong there (not an unreasonable calculus).

Here you go:

https://calgaryherald.com/news/politics/braid-one-law-for-quebec-interests-another-against-the-west

quote:

Braid: One law for Quebec interests, another against the West

On vivid display is the Trudeau government's fierce loyalty to Quebec, and its destructive paternalism toward the West's interests.

The federal Liberals bend the law for a Quebec company that allegedly paid for prostitutes for a Libyan strongman’s son.

Meanwhile, Premier Rachel Notley goes to Ottawa to convince senators that an entirely different bill is ruinous to western oil, gas and other resources.

On vivid display is the Trudeau government’s fierce loyalty to Quebec, and its destructive paternalism toward the West’s interests.

Former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould riveted the nation on Wednesday with her tale of improper pressure to drop charges against SNC-Lavalin.

As that was happening, Montreal’s La Presse broke news of SNC-Lavalin apparently paying $30,000 in 2008 for “sexual services” for the son of the former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

He was visiting Canada hoping to improve his English, apparently starting with “yes, yes!”

...

I talk politics with a Russian who detests socialism to the bone for his terrible life start in the USSR, and the trump/PPC guy all the time. Find common ground, there has to be some issue you both agree on, but perhaps don’t agree on the implementation. They might be trying to get a rise out of you if you get worked up easily.

Yeah, I've got the same thing with an elderly Czech neighbour who had to flee when he got on the wrong side of the occupying Russian forces. He's actually quite progressive on a lot of things but he definitely enjoys trolling me.

He hates fascists more than he hates socialists, so that makes life a little easier.

Nah your only option is to pay to go to the NDP convention and have your resolution not called to a vote if it in any way spooks the party establishment.

If nothing else it'll be an administrative mess. It's a global reorg of health services in the province. Even at the best of times it would be difficult to manage without having at least temporary negative impacts on patient care, but also this is the Ford government, so it's reasonable to assume that no one within a million miles of this file has any goddamn clue what they're doing.
