Does ping affect activating abilities? The rotations in this game are pretty static so there shouldn't be a problem, but i'm wondering if there's an issue like the UI not letting you send your next command until the server thinks your GCD is up, and then the server not starting your next GCD until you receive it making your GCD 2.5s + ping? Also is there a way to show when you can move at the end of your cast due to ping like in WoW?

The game has a pretty generous buffer, so if you send your next spell input like 0.5-1 second before the GCD comes up it will cast as soon as possible after the GCD. Keep in mind that this behavior doesn't work if you're using macros; there's no buffer, so you will be making your GCD 2.5s + ping + reaction time. Don't macro GCD abilities for this reason.

Ping is pretty important for oGCDs though. It's easier to weave 2 abilities between GCDs at low ping. This is really important for Ninjas.

Hey, I set up a green screen room in the PBC house if anyone wants a place to crop out their character.

Room 129, I set the name to "green screen" and enabled guest access. I think that's it? Go hog wild if you think you'll find it useful.

I think you can probably do the same thing with reshade, but this doesn't involve installing another program and I think it'll work pretty well for my purposes.

I flip flop on the pant dye a lot, they line up exceedingly well with the chest when I dye them to match.

But for real, all the Skallic sets are great, except maybe the scout one. I'm trying to get the maiming chest/gloves and then I'll have the full set. I posted the tank set two days ago, I think. Easily my favorite of all the design contest sets.

Can I ask ya somethin', Padre? When I was kickin' your ass back there... you get a little wood?

Did the MSQ fight against Ifrit yesterday - kind of neat since it's the first fight (I think) that has a boss throwing different types of AOE at you.

When we were done, I checked a summary video on Youtube about the fight to see if I missed anything. Apparently there's the whole thing where he spawns an object and if you don't kill it, it OHKO's everyone? It's funny because I didn't even notice that when the fight was happening :psyduck: . I'm too busy looking at people's health bars and healing them.

Overall I have to say group stuff (guildhests, dungeons) has been disorientating so far because I haven't played any of the other classes outside of conjurer yet and I don't know what the hell any of them are doing. Fights feel really chaotic. Is there a way to turn on stuff that shows what skills people are using on-screen, or is this something that you can only get in third-party extensions?

It feels like it has a bunch of mechanics layered on top of one another specifically to add complexity and for no other reason. I'm just constantly scrambling to hit whatever just lit up while also trying to make sure my songs keep rolling while also trying to make sure I keep up my buff and DoTs and...

There are parts of BRD I love. I love the animations. I love the song weaving. I love having a few little support abilities I can throw out there. But throw in all the other stuff, all the procs and DoTs and buffs and charges, and it's just a total mess. I don't really want it to change much because people who play it clearly love it and if I don't like it I can just play a different job, but man I just can't understand why anyone would subject themselves to it.

I think my ideal job would be like, what if RDM but it had Ranged DPS role actions. Something like that.

You can toggle on/off or minimize effects from other party members and players in the in game config, the game has a a lot of customization options overall.
I'm not at my gaming pc atm, but I believe the option for toggling effects is under one of the tabs in "Character configuration".

edit; nvm just realised I misread that you wanted to see the name of what skills and abilities people use on screen, and that I'm not sure you can do, there is the combat log window you can set up for looking at that I suppose.
Other then that you'd have to set up ACT (advanced combat tracker) a 3rd party parsing tool which can display all kinds of combat info and has parsing overlay options etc.

BRD snapped into place for me when I realised all the things you need to refresh share timers. So you start a fight by hitting both dots, straight shot for the enhanced crit, and popping your song of choice.

That's it. For the next 30 seconds, you only need to worry about spamming heavy shot on GCD and hitting the stuff that lights up; refulgent is on GCD so it 'replaces' heavy shot, which you can weave with bloodletter/rain of death OGCD if you're on Mage's Ballad, Pitch perfect has a very noticeable noise when it hits 3 charges so you can hit it when you hear it pop, and Army's Paeon... exists.

Once you see your song has ~5 seconds left you can hit Iron jaws to refresh your dots, straight arrow for the crit and swap to your next song.

I know I'm oversimplifying, but once you break it down like that it's really not that bad.

Until you hit a mob then you're trying to keep up 5-6 dots while spamming quick nock and rain of death, then everything goes to poo poo :v:

One of the most important parts of learning any class, before you care at all about optimizing wildfires or whatever your class does, is keeping your gcd rolling and using abilities on cooldown. I’ve seen lots of peeps before spend a ton of time on getting rotations exactly right and then you check the logs and find they dropped like 10 gcds over the fight.

Nothin’ gonna fix that.

i like having a rotation that's relatively freeform and gives me things to react to, instead of "press these exact buttons in this exact order, forever". also mage's ballad on big groups is the closest state to divinity that mortals can reach.

It's a fine line for me. I really like BRD since you have a general list of stuff to keep up, and the rest is just reacting to procs, but stuff like SAM which is sorta freefrom I just can't get good traction on, since you sorta need to keep your cooldowns and Kenji generation in mind in order to make decisions.
With BRD I just hit the proc as soon as I see it, with SAM Shinten lights up and do I hit it, or do I need the kenki for banana? Oh poo poo I tried getting more kenki, finished a Sen combo and now I can't hit the dot and Hagakure isn't up and oh god.

I can follow a strict rotation or react to immediate stuff, any short term planning I just can't handle. v:v:v
