He told the Attorney General to give favourable treatment to SNC-Lavalin in a criminal case, because it would be good for Liberal votes in Quebec. Basically ignoring the rule of law for his political benefit lol.

It's even worse than that somehow.

SNC-Lavalin spent tens of millions of dollars bribing Muammar Gaddafi so they could get contracts to build torture prisons in the Libyan desert. This is not only incredibly immoral and wrong, it's also insanely illegal under Canadian law.

When people found out about this and criminal proceedings started against SNC-Lavalin, they spent a bunch more money lobbying the Liberals to invent something that would mean they wouldn't have to face consequences for their actions.

The Liberals, of course, complied and wrote deferred prosecution agreements (DPAs) into Canadian law.

Then the part you summarized starts, where now that DPAs are a thing that exists, they started pressuring the attorney general to use one on SNC-Lavalin instead of actually prosecuting them.

Snc lavalin isn't even a fancy company like one of the big law firms or consulting companies all the liberals can gently caress off too after politics. There's no way it was even worth it to protect them, they are a loving engineering company

I almost feel like investing in Winnipeg is pointless unless they come up with better/different concrete or asphalt or whatever. Or at least a different way of putting in curbs. Everything goes to poo poo within 3-5 years because of winter and plows. Brand new curbs are immediately chewed up, those yellow texture pads on sidewalks for blind people are chipped to poo poo in 2 years and our fancy bike infrastructure has all the colours wash off after the first winter.

under Pallister, Manitoba is now a republican have-not hellstate with its race to privatize everything and reduce taxes to zero so no government, NDP or otherwise, can ever function there again

but thank god canadians are smarter than americans and would prevent something like this from ever happening! :downs:

Already today Pallister personally intervened to prevent 6 RMs from getting the payments they were promised for the big power line project. He must have done the calculus to determine that those RMs either already will be voting for Kinew, or that they hate Kinew so much that it won't affect their votes.

snow clearance needs to go back under the auspices of the city instead of being privatized

but an idiot says: its good because someones making money!

but you can immediately see the problem when private companies control road repair in the summer AND road clearance in the winter; they completely loving destroy the road so someone's ALWAYS making money. so instead of paying workers to make the streets usable and having an incentive to do it properly and keep costs down, taxpayers are paying people out the rear end for the sake of paying people out the rear end. hooray for capitalism! :homebrew:

you do need to do this, but also, as a Torontonian, it's no panacea when the city also freezes/cuts all the city budgets to keep property tax increases at or below inflation. we've been doing that since 2010 now and our snow clearing/removal is a loving joke. in toronto. where winter barely even exists.
