Dumb ✔
So goddamn crazy ✔

It's loving disgusting the way they're weaponizing antisemitism accusations against Ilhan Omar. Right wingers bitch and moan about evil Soros, shoot up synagogues, their kids are apparently throwing swastika parties in high school, and Ilhan Omar is evil cause she's critical of Israel's fascist state (a sentiment that millions of Jews around the world agree with, myself included).

Watching people fall in line behind the antisemitism accusations against Omar is loving gross, makes me feel like a prop.

Not, you know, "Jane Sanders is Bernie's spouse and it's Bernie who has declared his candidacy, not Jane, so what she says doesn't make or break his chances, even if she says something lovely."

Yeah, exactly this. The statement is not a big deal.

But if you see a trans person saying "hey, this is really, uncomfortably similar to rhetoric that's been thrown at me", and you dismiss that as "super weird", out of hand, just because you haven't had that experience? That is a problem.

Also plenty of people are getting annoyed by the nonstop outrage and coverage of Trump. It seems weird to people who only have a passing/no interest in politics and might make them more likely to support Trump out of spite.

They were never really liberals...They are the same people that would say "IF THEY CAME FOR YOU ID BE IN THE STREETS DEFENDING YOU" but they are also the same people that instantly lock their cars from the inside if they are in the hood. gently caress these people, they mean well but they are full of poo poo.

Unfortunately, this isn't true. If current trends continue, the affluent will definitely suffer far less from climate change. The poor (and brown) will die first and in much greater numbers. As new technologies become available richer (whiter) cities and croplands will be protected. It's possible in the end everyone will die, but I think it's far more likely we'll establish some new equilibrium, with some surviving on the Mars-like earth. They will most likely be the descendants, disproportionately of today's rich and powerful. This is part of what makes climate change so ethically heinous, the committers of climate change crimes will suffer the least consequences.

Conversely to the whole "people want more social programs but dislike socialism" thing, you see stories all the time about polls finding that milennials have a more positive view of socialism than capitalism. And I think a large part of that is Republicans having referred to anything left of Mussolini as "socialism" for decades and now a lot of young people who've grown up in a world where socialism means nothing more than a bare minimum social safety net are responding positively to the term because our overton window is so screwed up that the center left is now referred to as radical socialism.

The MOST glaring issue at the current moment? Even if we remove global apocalypse level issues that you can argue all nations need to work together on, you're saying this is the MOST glaring issue in America? I think it's kind of a Gordian knot, to be honest. You can try to pull out one thread and say "this is the thread", but thankfully AOC and the GND Dems are taking the Alexandar approach and saying gently caress it, cut the whole thing at once.

I think this is part of why the squawking to isolate the climate change stuff is a huge mistake and really just an attempt to keep the status quo, they know you can't just isolate one issue and tease it out.

I mean I do agree that it's not the #1 issue but the prospect of a foreign dictatorship buying our elections with the enthusiastic participation of one of the two major factions of our political system is a pretty legitimately serious issue.

I think that the concerns of Russian interference are, for the most part, an attempt to scapegoat away the issues within the United States. The American experiment cannot fail, but it can be failed and be tampered with: once the traitors are gone, the hope is that things will return to normal. I'm not saying I agree with the perspective, but it seems like the aforementioned thought process is what gives it its enduring and incendiary nature.
