The problem is that she can't secure an extension without a referendum or an election. And parliament knows this, so depending on how it goes, if she just goes and asks for an extension without a reason, that might not constitute fulfilling the instruction.

I don't quite understand the strategy of anti-Brexit MPs here: doesn't this make Brexit more likely now? As in, won't hard Brexit No Dealers be far more likely to push May's deal through now, if she puts it before the house once again, if the only credible options are May'd deal or no Brexit?

it owns that after already being found in contempt of parliament May might try and push things even further by trying anotehr vote for her deal

forkboy84 posted:This is honestly far stupider than I expected Now that I understand it, it's absolutely hilarious The government made a motion and then it got amended by a 4 vote majority (in a free vote) into a significantly different motion. Now the government wants to whip against the amended motion, and now at least one Tory faction is going to be pissed off

Essentially the government's position is weak at the moment, bercow is getting sick of them, parliament just rejected no deal, may's deal is dead, and we're at the deadline. It's all a bit weird cos what happens is gonna be heavily determined by who puts what amendments and motions up and if/how bercow enforces the prerogative of the house over the government.

100 Tory abstentions, about 50 Referendumers given they voted against it. Good numbers if you want to stop Brexit.

It's gonna be kinda darkly amusing if after all this there's a desperate third meaningful vote on March 26th and the ERG has to vote for it to make Brexit happen in the first place. Unicorn amendment (Delay to May 22nd and have a transition period until 2021) just got rejected by 210 votes
