He's crazy prolific as well. According to his Wikipedia discography:quote:The total number of studio albums, special releases, extended plays, demo tapes, and works with other bands and projects is 379. His guest appearances total 97. His videography releases total 19. In total, Buckethead has been involved with 476 different album projects (as solo or with other bands). As of his 306th solo studio album and his 275th album in the Pikes series, Dreamthread, his total solo studio album running time is 162 hours, 55 minutes and 11 seconds. That's .... a lot of albums. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckethead_discography

He's also on Amazon Music, too.

oh dope posted:I remember a couple years ago hearing about his heart condition, thinking he was gonna slow down maybe. Nope, the man is unstoppable. He's amazing. He did his only out-of-character interview, which is also basically a therapy session with the interviewer. His voice sounds exactly like what you'd expect a shy recluse to sound like. He's an incredibly emotional and kind man who only cares about music. He could easily become a fantastically wealthy and famous celebrity, but he could never handle the anxiety of it, so he created a fictional character with a mask so he could live his life anonymously. I think he mentions in the interview that when his heart condition was at its worst and he was bedridden, he was still pumping out those albums. He just had stuff dragged over to his bed so he could record from there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhjQ5gnmQpc I'm seeing him tomorrow for the third time.

Some of those were actually extremely limited edition runs where the only release was basically hand made. I think a proper manufactured run happened later for most or all of them but a fair number of them he'd record the album, burn the CDs, draw the album art by hand, then sign and number them. I think a few hundred of those ever got actually made. It's something special, really. Why did he do it? Because he's loving Buckethead.

Speaking of preposterously gifted musicians, you know what's also badass? A 6+ octave vocal range. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W29zEuZVaxs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXdA4yLNhiE I'm reasonably sure this guy is no human, but rather some manner of spirit from the elemental plane of voice. So everything I’ve heard about the Christchurch shooter, whatshisname, has given me the impression the he thought pretty highly of himself. It seems to me that he wanted to change things, for the worse of course. Now, this is only a guess, as his idea of how to send a message to the world was obfuscated twice over, once through a filter of unimaginable hatred and bigotry and again through an impermeable layer of being extremely, extremely online. Whatever his ultimate goal, he must surely have thought himself quite powerful. However, from the perspecitive of a normal person, it is quite clear that that man, may his name be forgotten, did not really even know what power actually is. This is power.

Buckethead actually has some kick-rear end songs, like Soothsayer, it's just that he releases every bit of formulaic nonsense he thinks up. You trawl through his immense library and pick out the distinctive songs and the best type example from each formula, and you have a more normal output.

Feel like Devin Townsend should get some notice for his ability and range. Mostly, he puts a hell of a lot of emotion and quality into his work. He covers the ground between demon and angel quite well. https://youtu.be/DrDM6V08wcE?t=372 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whnNRafv13M

His range is obviously amazing but I just find the sweetness of his voice from top to bottom even more astonishing. I've heard people with great ranges who can hit the notes but there is often something unpleasant in the actual quality of their voice in parts. His is always so bright and clear and sweet. Gosh (with that range could he theoretically sing every part in an opera? I do not know much about such things.) Pookah has a new favorite as of 09:02 on Mar 19, 2019 |

I saw a video with a vocal coach talking about him singing, and he does this weird technique where when he's singing the deep/gutteral stuff he can do it without...using his whole chest, or something, so he doesn't ruin his voice for the higher pitch stuff. I dunno it sounded pretty impressive. Also that Haka video is lovely and badass at the same time Totally not crying. Nope. Roblo has a new favorite as of 19:42 on Mar 19, 2019 |
