I can't say publically what these nazi attacks make me want to do. Facebook, twitter etc need to be regulated or something. This can't keep happening and social media is a large part of the problem.

I'm actually listening to a podcast about the history of the American Nazi Party right now, and one of the things that shut them down pretty good in the 60s was the Jewish community working to petition the media not to cover events that George Lincoln Rockwell was doing. No media exposure meant no funding, no funding meant no literature. We don't have that option anymore with social media.

Also gently caress all the media outlets reporting that these mosques were peaceful. Yes, they were! But that’s the default and radical jihadists are the exception. You shouldnt have to say that by exception but the narrative being so fear-mongering means that now even well-intentioned reporters fall into this habit. Would be kind of hosed up to see a news report taking a moment to explain ever time they report on, say, a Baptist Church that this particular church is not pro-pedophilia. “Mr. Edwards, who we do not think is a rapist or cheat, was surprised to learn he’d been hired to blah blah” is not normal.

i am hoping everyone who is angry & upset can channel it into anti-fascist (or related) work. i've stayed out of it because i spend a lot of time on housing justice (and sometimes electoral), but this poo poo is urgent. we need to be actively undoing & exposing white supremacy.

Oh I should also note that one of the major broadcast tv networks over here gave the racist raisin a paid tv spot for something like 6 months prior to the last election, that she was able to use to return to parliament, with a number of other senate seats populated by racist loons. Prior to this, her party had been relatively obscure since she was literally jailed for electoral fraud in the early 2000s, following a brief stint in parliament during which she called for an end to Asian immigration into Australia. So yeah it's cool and good that our media actively works to get Nazi sympathisers and actual loving Nazis elected.

There is nothing casual about Fraser Anning's racism. He's the kind that actually collects Nazi memorabilia and has been known to appear in public wearing it. These days I'd say we're about on par with the US, in that it's very frowned upon in the cities but out on the fringes it's still fairly common to hear racial slurs just being thrown around. Known Racists Queensland are responsible for this guy, though, as well as a double dissolution election that brought all senate seats up at the same time, lowering the number of votes required to get one by 50%.
