Sorry, I am just happy to wait and see before concluding the worst. I'm also trying to decrease the level of negativity around here and failing. All I'm asking is for a small amount of room for the information gap to close before concluding the worst of a situation or indeed the worst of posters who try to participate in this thread in good faith, despite their relationships with public services. Am I wrong? It's just how I feel currently.

I don't know why but for some reason this attack has really upset me. I mean yeah I'm a normal, non-Nazi empathetic human being so of course it's gonna be upsetting, but I'm not Muslim (although I had colleagues at mosque when it happened), so I don't really know why it's affected me as much as it has. It feels like it's been a long time coming (and it isn't anything like the first instance of white supremacist violence, but I mean an attack of this scale), and I think that's a big part of it. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but anyone who says this was unforeseeable is at best naive, at worst, actively lying. I know the general line is love trumps hate and we'll win out eventually, but I'm so sick of waiting for the eventually. I want to go out and punch some Nazis. Use their tactics against them, put them back in their place so that if anyone is stupid enough to still hold such outdated, ignorant views, they're afraid to express them in public. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite, I don't really care at this point when people are literally being murdered just for going about their daily lives. A disturbing amount of politicians have stoked the division and dog-whistling (well, the ones who understand it - others smile blithely as it flies over their heads), and the media gives it a platform and legitimacy under the guise of "debate". Meanwhile people like us, who have grown up with the internet, can see the risk and reality of online radicalisation, know the in-group signifiers (like them trying to co-opt the okay symbol) and aren't in a position to do anything about it except... call it out when we see it? Wait for the next attack? Wait until there's a critical mass of legislators in parliament who've grown up with the internet and know what to look out for? I don't really have a point to this post, I guess, other than I'm sick of the right-wing extremist violence (see also: that fucker who went into the bank in America last year and straight up executed all the women) with seemingly no retribution and no consequences to the broader movement. Sure, the individual perpetrator winds up dead or in custody, but that really doesn't seem to do a whole lot to dissuade the next attacker. I just don't know what we do.
