Don't most Tory MPs totally loathe Boris? I'd be very surprised if he made it as far as the members' vote.

If Boris becomes leader that might well stop my dad from voting Tory so I'm all for it as if that feeling is widespread it'll kill the party.

Christ, looks like the government's actually going ahead with their dumbass internet porn ban:

https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2019/mar/16/uk-online-porn-age-verification-launch

quote:

The age block will require commercial pornography sites to show that they are taking sufficient steps to verify their users are over 18, such as by uploading a passport or driving licence or by visiting a newsagent to buy a pass only available to adults

Is this the Tories trying to get back to the good old days where visiting the newsagents to buy a dirty mag was a shame-faced rite of passage??

This is the kind of thing that I've seen quite a lot of, but I question how it would work in the modern world; these events aren't ticketed on lovely home printers any more, that you can just forge trivially, they're run through facebook or eventbrite or whatever, they're not held in isolation with their own private security any more, they're actively colluded with by the police. It's much, more more difficult than it used to be to pretend to be a fash for long enough to infiltrate an event, let alone to get a large enough percentage of the audience that you don't just get the poo poo knocked out of you the instant you start something. The propaganda isn't being distributed in pamphlets and magazines it's on the front pages of the newspapers, and it took a loving WAR to get it off the front page of the Heil last time.

So, I guess what I'm wondering is, is there an equivalent method that does work today?

Obviously, there are quite a number of ways that deplatforming fash COULD work online, but the big social media providers refuse to actually do them, so that's much harder too, though there have been the occasional great stories of people infiltrating fash groups and websites and replacing them with furry porn or whatever, which are always great.

If we could get maybe 50 antifa to pretend to be fash and start hosting their own fash demonstrations full of faux fash antifa to attract a real fash and their supporters to the event, then start the fight. The internet is great for publicising events but terrible at ensuring that the event itself is what you're actually looking for. Keep hosting these flytrap fash events and it'll stop them from being able to trust any new evangelists in meatspace, instead forcing them to only rely on the OG voices. They'll only be able to trust people who they know were fash before this. Eventually they'll get very good at determining which events are fake, and they'll feel smug about telling everyone "don't go to the event". The potential for misfire is so great, however, it's worth sustaining even after they've got the idea.

Or do what that fake American singer did to get his tour booked in UK clubs a few months back - get a load of fake people to register interest, none of whom will actually turn up on the day. Indoor venues will have caps on the numbers allowed, so it potentially has the benefit of preventing actual fash from getting tickets, and making venues think twice about hosting them if it's a complete dud.

To be fair some of the subject matter on soaps can be really hard to deal with and I kinda wish they'd have more of a warning before hand.
Coronation Street the past few years has had a lot of stories about rape, grooming, self harm, suicide and abortions (and the PTSD that comes with it). Raising awareness is good and all but having to relive some of the worst traumas of ones life when all you were expecting was Roy Cropper to be spouting facts to his customers about the etymology of "Sandwich" or something is a bit like WOAH

I honestly wouldn't be cool with kids seeing half of what goes on in a soap

You do realise that they have zero power to enforce this for websites hosted outside of the UK, and in any case a block would be trivial to bypass for anyone with an ounce of computer know-how? It's a completely toothless law and a huge waste of time for everyone involved.

Does anyone have a link to any articles about how QT is just a government mouthpiece? I’m looking for information on the links the producers etc have to the tories, and a collection of those “this member of the public is actually head of his local Conservative noncing society” that comes up seemingly every episode.

Interesting, YouGov showing a similar dent in Tory support to Survation but without a corresponding boost for Labour. Seems that the Tories are actually flagging in any case, which is good news. Fingers crossed that Brexit insanity forces an election soon.

Got to be 35 to run for President so she's 6 years too young. I hope Corbyn has stepped aside to be replaced by a younger person who is both not a bloke and has very good politics by then because 2024 feels a long time away.
