I mean, if you're a successful actress and you go out of the house in a skirt and without underwear, knowing that paparazzi are just waiting for opportunities like this and that it has happened many times before, then there's really nobody you can blame for it but yourself.
I have read three pages of that thread now and I'm still not quite convinced that thing is actually real.

is everyone involved in this under 25? like no doubt that older people are capable of dipshittery, but the damage control seems to be handled by people who've never been bitten in the rear end by this kind of thing before

e: idk how old Arthmoor was during the Oblivion Gate tantrum but for some reason I imagine ~50

Team (Skyrim Online) makes a mod, partially using code by the name SKSE.

This code was used against the terms of agreement, including a provision explicitly stating that a specific project (Skyrim Online) was prohibited from touching their code.

Yamashi (lead mod maker for Skyrim Together) thought he'd be cute and use the code by renaming the project Skyrim Together.

Then he made it a paid mod.

Then he made a lovely website to host and make money off his paid mod with stolen and uncredited code.

Then he told the original coders to go gently caress themselves and make a better credits page.

They're making $35,000 a month with stolen code.

From the team who don't mind sharing their code with pretty much every non shithead.

Then they banned the whistle blowers from discord after getting called out. Whistle blowers apparently have receipts, and have already passed some damning poo poo.

Are there any actual legal consequences to this? Getting called out eating into their profits is okay but a civil judgment against them would be a real nice capstone to this tale of greed and dipshittery.

At a minimum DMCA should be applicable. Damages probably not? Unless statuary due to intention? But that's lawyers and actual $$ first.

Surprised there haven't been a DMCA though.

Stealing from the script extender team seems like a good way to shatter goodwill in the modding community given how almost any mod that isn't just textures needs skse to run.

Also all of MXR's fallout mod showcases are getting copyright claimed. How will we know what new skimpy armor mods are coming out?

Pretty sure Bethesda could just walk up and slap them down for charging for access to a mod.

It's honestly just ridiculous how much of the developer response is literally just "haha, gently caress you, so what you gonna do about it? nothing, that's what."

I don't even give a flying gently caress about this mod or even knew it existed until reading about it here, but I still want everyone involved burned at the stake because they're just that lovely people.

Dashing? But I'm not even moving!

Alright, I got one that I think is good, but it needs a bad amount of explanation.

There's this 2D fighting game engine called M.U.G.E.N. You can make your own fighters for it! Not like an in-game character creation with face sliders and color palletes, I mean you can program your own fighter, and draw pixel art of every single frame of their every single move. People...sometimes do that, but more often they rip art and sounds from other games and program copies of those fighters, so you can collect them all into the ultimate crossover. Or they loosely modify them to make Peter Griffin or some poo poo.

You can get a real good idea of what a clusterfuck this is by looking at the twitch channel "Saltybet's Dream Casino": someone with an enormous collection of fighters who makes them endlessly fight (and you can bet fake money on it).

M.U.G.E.N. comes packaged with an example character, called Kung Fu Man. Pretty basic looking guy, karate gi, spiky hair, you've basically seen him before. He doesn't need to look good, he just needs well-commented code so people can see what a working character looks like.

Well, someone took Kung Fu Man, and used him to create Waka Moto Man: a character with the same artwork, badly broken special moves, and all voice clips being of japanese voice actor Norio Wakamoto.

Wakamoto has a distinct voice. Distinct enough that even people stupid enough to watch anime actually end up knowing his name, because somewhere between the first or second time they hear it, they ask "okay who the gently caress is that guy." It's deep, ranging from leathery to silky, steady to rapid fire. He likes to roll his Rs. He is, it seems, the guy you cast for completely operatically over-the-top roles. He's the guy you cast for evil warlords, or Megatron, or Dracula, or Lando Calrissian (?!), or whatever the entire gently caress this is. The man can make counting sheep sound like...well, like perhaps nothing else on earth.

I was only able to find one video of Waka Moto Man in action. What with the really loud background music, it's not a perfect showcase, though I have linked to a timestamp I consider a highlight.

uhh...I hope you can at least take my word for it that it's kinda funny and good.

gently caress, Salty Bet is still a thing? I remember talking about it with a dude who moved back home to the Philippines like five years ago, so it must be at least five years old? Good on the creator for keeping it going for this long.

Apparently the current iteration is firmly dated to 2013, but I remember it coming up in conversation in college among fighting game nerds, so the concept is probably at least ten years old.

I'm going to remember my first time watching slatybet on my deathbed. It was a giant pixelated jpg of a duck with no animation frames stomping around the screen fighting (and winning) against a bunch of anime girls.

those are the best fights because how bullshit a character is is in direct proportion to how anime they are, how teenage girl they are, and how poorly animated they are.

There's a DBZ mod for Terraria that is actually surprisingly good and includes proper, easy controlled flight mechanics that the original game could only wish it had. For a game where so many bossfights take place 90% in the air, that's a godsend.0

I know, I was surprised too.
