Say what you will about Tarantino but his commitment to film is really nice. I think the biggest loss from the introduction to digital is a loss of low budget trash shot on film.

The World Before Your Feet is really good. An excellent "average Joe doing an insane task just to do" story. It provides enough context for the viewer to think about why Matt Green wants to walk every street of NYC, but it doesn't try to paint him as an eccentric. There's some zen undercurrents (with some subtle references to meditation and Buddhist philosophies) to his lifestyle and mission, but the fascination is in his love for details, his amusement at small things without much meaning (collecting photos of barbershops with "Z" in the name, seeking out buildings converted from Jewish synagogues), and his peace with action and living in the present without worry of the future.

For those with interest in creative types, or people happily working towards impossible goals, or that would like a closer look at NYC's culture (or even their own city), it's an optimistic, peaceful movie that will spark some love for your fellow man and maybe get you to go for a walk around your neighborhood.

Got a question for him?

They didn't take any q's from the audience, but if they did, I had two ready.

The cat in Gummo is named Foot Foot and I always wondered if it was a direct reference to the Shaggs song or if it was just a coincidence.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR9d4ESlpHY

The second question would've been about Linda Manz (Solomon's mom in the movie), and how she got cast for the role, I've been a fan of hers since The Wanderers and always wondered how she ended up in a Harmony Korine movie.

So, uh, if he wasn't taking questions, what the hell did Harmony do, then?

There was a moderator who was also one of Korine's friends from college so they really just reminisced about Harmony's short-lived attendance at NYU, meeting up with Larry Clark and doing Kids, and how that led directly to Gummo. Korine had a great story about the cinematographer on the movie, Jean-Yves Escoffier. The scene in the house with all the cockroaches crawling on the walls, the entire film crew quit in unison. Korine, being a first-time director, was freaking out and had no idea what to do. Jean-Yves comes up to Korine and says "gently caress THEM! All I need is you, me, ze actors (he's french so Harmony was doing this really exaggerated french accent), and a light bulb!"

The crew still wouldn't step foot in the house unless they got to wear full body hazmat suits, so Harmony and Jean-Yves stripped down to their underwear and shot all the scenes, while sitting in that roach infested house, in their skivvies as a sign of protest.

MORAL:
To the vector belong the spoils.
Are there resources besides 911 or calling the cops that you can call if you witness someone whose potentially having a mental health crisis?

Some old lady came to my door today because she somehow thought that my address was the address of her new doctor, and she didn't seem mentally ill and she left as soon as she realized her mistake. But then it occurred to me, like, "What would I do if someone is having a crisis and comes to my door, or I see it?" Cause I really don't wanna call 911 because I have the feeling that 90% chance they're either gonna just send a cop or it's gonna be a cop that gets there first and I don't really trust any random cop with dealing with someone who has actual needs.

It sounds like dementia. Does your area have a crisis center? I'd try them although I don't know who they would send in that situation.

Turns out there's two really close by me, a private practice and a non-profit. Doesn't seem like they have responders though, at least from their websites. I'll call them up sometime this week just to ask around, hopefully they'll understand my whole, "I understand why you guys sometimes need cops to be the first response to these sorts of things, but also I really don't want to have to call cops on a mentally ill person" jag.

You can bet your rear end i'm going to try to get a gig as an extra in that Bill & Ted movie, since they're almost certainly going to be filming it in and around the Phoenix area, again.

The Circle K they used in the first two movies is still there and still looks practically the same as it did.

I can never tell. I feel like a lot of people hold Ian Curtis in reverence but I kinda hate his voice. It feels almost like the public attitude is an AC/DC thing where the "good" singer died young and the band carried on, although to greater commercial success.
