Coming in Wednesday, Firefly thinline Tele in matte black, black hardware, bound neck. $136.91 on Amazon

Same company that makes the $139.91 ES335-ish copies. I have one of those, and it's damned nice for the money, so I'll give this one a shot, too. They also have green, orange, blue, and sunburst. Going by the pics, blue and orange have maple necks, sunburst/green/black have something rosewood-ish, but only the green and black are bound. The black also has a body color headstock, so with the black hardware I had to go with that one.

I've been looking at keyboards for some time now after enjoying my Minilab. I wanted something bigger, and almost impulse bought a Juno DS 88. I stopped by the local Guitar Center to check out the Juno again, and it still felt amazing. I found another keyboard that felt just as good, and didn't notice it the last time I was in. It was a new Casio that was released at NAMM 2019. The CDP-S350. It was basically everything the Juno was but half the cost with built in stereo speakers and a pile of other utilities and toys. Sold.

Quick connection to FLStudio 20 just like that, no fuss, no muss. Everything works amazing together.

I can even route the audio from the macbook into the speakers on the Casio. Though it seems to be mono currently, hoping it's a switch somewhere to make it stereo and use both speakers because they're halfway decent for playing around with. Edit: It was the cable. How did I end up with a mono... Full stereo now! wooo

Edit: Holy f this can get loud.

That thing is cool as hell, and it's a great form factor considering it's a full 88. If I wasn't working on getting a TR-8s then I'd pick one up for my sister's NY apartment.

Yeah, a full 88 is still quite a huge keyboard. It's 4'4" in length, so it'll take up some room despite how thin it is. Thankfully it's only 20ish lbs, so it can be tucked away under a bed, or into a closet when needed. I have a bunch of guitars and amps all fighting for space. But the full size keys are so nice to play. It can be used as a standalone piano with 700 builtin patches or a MIDI controller with endless amounts of patches has me pretty happy with the purchase.

I wasn't even planning on using the built-in speakers as I have monitors and a desktop PC, but they're quite capable and allow a "portable" aspect with my macbook if I want. The 8" stereo speakers are rear firing to be used against a wall and it has forward firing stereo speakers along the top of the keys also. You get a cool 3d sound. I never considered Casio on my list till I saw this.

Spring cleaning this year includes revitalizing all my instruments. It's been years since I've played so I dug out all my gear to see what I want to keep and what I want to get rid of. Here's my list of tasks:

-get my old p-bass recrowned or possibly re-fretted
-replace all the batteries in my active electronics
-clean, restring, intonate everything
-downsize by selling one of my guitars and some extra gear that hasn't been used in like 15 years
-repair the broken EXH envelope filter pedal I've got
-fix the broken latch on my one hard bass case
-get a hard case for my bass, and one more for one of my guitars
-replace broken tone knob on the bass
-actually finally put together a pedalboard

Yesterday I snagged a hard case for one of my electrics from Craigslist for only twenty bucks. I've needed one for years, now I just gotta look out for one more.

And I ordered up one of these for my bass:

Gonna feel good to finally cross off a bunch of little tasks from my music to-do list.

Ordered on Sunday, shipped Tuesday, sat in Memphis for a day, and finally delivered today.

Firefly FFTH in matte black. Body and neck binding, black hardware, AlNiCo pickups, and D'Addario strings. No idea what the fretboard is, looks like rosewood but doesn't really feel like it.

Part of the "Pure Series", whatever the hell that means.

Came with a seemingly good instrument cable and a little vinyl pouch with the allen keys. Plays pretty good out of the box, but will need a little tweaking. Pickups are good, not great, but I'm comparing my Classic Vibe Teles. WAY better than your standard Chinese ceramic pickups.

Has two issues. Fretwork and binding at the heel of the neck are ugly, but nothing buzzes or is coming apart.

Second issue was easily solved, but I'm not happy about it. Three of the neck screws had the heads chewed to hell and had to be replaced due to jagged sharp ends. I had extras in my parts box, but how the hell did that make it out the door?

Of course, for $136.91 shipped I'm not going to complain a whole lot.

Looks pretty slick though, I really wanted a thinline. How's the weight? I used to play super light Ibanez' that were fast as hell and I'm still getting used to the weight of my Tele.

It's right at 6 lbs. I also have a Squier 72 Thinline that's 6lbs, 12oz. Compare that to my other Teles that range from 7 to 8 lbs and this really feels light to me.

Also noticed today that it smells of fresh paint, which I would guess is not an issue on the other colors. This literally smells like it was done with a flat black rattle can.

Oh, David...
Sold an amp, bought more pedals:

The SS/BS Mini was from craigslist, the Fifth Gear was from a flash sale on Southampton's site.

Haven't had much time with the Fifth Gear yet, but Mini is looking like a keeper. I'm using it as a slightly dirty full range boost for bass, but it's capable of a lot of different gain levels and textures with the EQ and bias knobs.

So the MIJ Jaguar I posted last month didn't take. The money I would have needed to put into it to get it into playable shape made it a bum deal, and I just didn't care about it as much as I loved my MIM Jazzmaster.

So I bit the bullet and bought a big boy American Jazzmaster today. So stoked for it to arrive.

It's a 2018 Fender American Original '60s Jazzmaster with Rosewood Fretboard in 3-Color Sunburst.

That is a beaut of a Jazzy.

Got a new noisemaker today which may kick off a dangerous habit. EHX Stereo Pulsar Trem pedal. Lots of cool wobbly sounds to be had out of this. Sounds amazing with overdrive crunch.
When I was researching which one to get, I saw this amazon review I really liked: "It makes my piano go wououwouou but if i turn the knob it will go wowowowowow and if i turn the knob more it goes brrrrt. All this in stereo! 11/10 would wououo again" and yeah, that also applies to guitar.

I've been using an EHX Bass Big Muff for a while and haven't been in love with it, so I figured it was time to dive deep and get something that I could get more overdrive variety out of, along with some tone sculpting and a DI. The Mono Synth is just something cool to have fun with.

It's here, and it's phenomenal. I didn't think it would sound so different, but this body is so much more resonant than my MIM Jazzmaster. The 9.5 radius is so much more playable, and I love the modern C neck. Say hello to the finest thing I've ever owned.

2007 Fender 60s Reverse Headstock Stratocaster, basically the current Hendrix Strat. Part of a special run for Musicians Friend, supposedly 700 made in white or black.

The body is beat up, big paint chips, warped pickguard, and a big screw through the pickguard, but the neck doesn't show a lot of wear and it plays great. Came with a tweed case and a strap.

Pawn shop gives 20% off on one item on your birthday, so I waited until today. It's been on the floor for a week, expected it to be gone at the $300 they were asking. With the 20% off, seemed like a no brainer.

That's not what gaslighting means you hyperbolic dipshit.
Speaking of white strats... I recently got a new mint green pickguard (replacing a white one) on my first guitar ever, an olympic white MIM Fender Strat I got for a couple hundred bucks in the mid-90's. A new pickguard might seem like a small thing but I think it's great.

This thing has been in a closet at my parent's place for maybe 10 years and I just got it back. I got it when I was just learning guitar so I didn't appreciate what a good Strat really was, at least relative to other guitars. Now I do and I'm rediscovering this thing, and it's like I have a brand new guitar.

edit: can't get enough of pickup selector positions 2 and 4. Dang.

I thought about that, but I kind of like the white pickup covers. Gives the guitar a weird 3-color thing I like.
Also reminds me just a bit of how the white pickup covers in SRV's guitar stand out, as embarrassing as that is to admit to liking. Not saying the music is my favorite, just that the general aesthetic of "pickups are visually distinct" is cool.

I agree with you about the pickup selector tip suggestion though, I'll do that soon.
