It doesn't really comes across in the news text, but it's more of an "intimidate the Egyptians" move than any actual attempt to dam the Nile, triggered by a couple Egyptian events where they've been growing closer to Benin and Kongo, something that Morocco obviously wants to put an end to.

Considering the industrial scores from the end of V2, are we realistically in the position to go for men over guns in the first place?

We have tungsten so we could theoretically make a great deal of artillery but even then superior firepower also wants things we cant afford like trucks, tanks, and planes

No Comrades, Mass Assault/Mass Mobilization is the path forwards for Iberia.

Even if the mod has made significant changes to population to reflect V2 situation, Iberia has much less manpower than France/England or Mega-Russia. Depending on how much of the Almoravid's empire is core territory they might be the largest of anyone in terms of manpower pool (what with nearly complete control of Africa and India)

1. No matter who we fight we're massively outmanned. The +5% from mass mobilization means an extra several million men to close the gap

2. Since we have no native oil/rubber source, tanks, trucks, and planes will be sparse and our infantry will have to be able to perform unsupported lest we lose the war in the sky and are left helpless on the ground. Mass Assault gives massive bonuses to infantry organization which lets them hold their ground much more effectively and also lowers the combat width of infantry, meaning more men and guns can fit into the narrow mountain passes of the Pyrenees and hold them from the enemy.

3. The tree also grants massive boosts to recovery rates + reinforce rates. For people not familiar with the intricacies of land combat in Hoi4 what this means is that our troops will be able to reinforce combat much more quickly than any other infantry, sometimes even faster than enemy armor/motorized divisions. Even when a narrow width battle is being lost, troops will easily be shuffled into and out of combat, leaving the troops kicked out quickly recuperating in the reserve line behind the front

4. Mass Charge. Unlocking this doctrine research grants generals access to the tactic "Mass Charge", when you are attacking and you have filled up your combat width a general can choose this tactic which increases the offensive forces' attack by 10% and increases the combat width by 50%! You can fit half-again as many men through the breech, and there is no counter!

I feel like - as the last bastion of liberal democracy and Relatively Moderate Thought, in spite of everything that happened over the past couple centuries - Russia 1) has demonstrated an impressive capacity for not getting their poo poo hosed, and 2) probably has a populace very dedicated to keeping things relatively cool.

That isn't to say chaos won't reign, mind, but I imagine it would be more of a "someone starts a coup in order to cooperate with/annihilate the Federation" situation than an "internal strife boils over" situation, and I can't see that happening unless the Feds actually do invade and Russia actually does lose significant ground.

What can we say currently about the Russian role in Germany? We're to believe this was the work of Russian 'magnates and monarchists' to bring the Godi dynasty back to the stage, but that seems a very convenient cover. Certainly all those Russian-made tanks and planes got into Vienna through some means. Not to be conspiratorial but it seems like this social democrat regime in Russia might well praise isolationism but is in fact spreading its influence more covertly.

I don’t know how to play this game at all, but I will second this proposed Land Doctrine if only because Mass Assault/Mass Mobilization also happens to fit better with our ideology.

I would agree but if that were the case the German republic would be the perfect faction to support for a most of the time liberal Russia.

This just feels like another replay of the Iberian socialist where people are so salty they got elected that reactionaries of every stripe are popping out of the woodwork but this time it is worse because these people will have a global empire to draw their funds from.

They're not gonna erupt into civil war or anything, but there are plenty of tensions in the government regarding their role on the continent, especially as Francia and the Balkan Federation become increasingly aggressive. The socialists also happen to have a lot of enemies, so yeah, some poo poo's gonna go down in Smolensk before long.

Yeah, I'm p disappointed in the Russians for that, though it does mean our brothers will likely take Hannover in the next update. And the Reich getting a dagger in the back is all good by my view.

I wonder how Francia is getting supplies to the Reich, I guess by boat (previously all the way through Gibraltar but now using Montpelier as the primary port) and then through Italy? With the fall of Occitania we probably now have to ship our own resources to Provence and then to Socialist Germany rather than using the Occitanian railways.

There are a couple ways that the Russians could've gotten involved. If they elected a liberal government then they'd almost definitely have been involved in the civil war at its outset, and the only candidate then would've been the German Republic (since Vienna was still fascist), but the socialists and isolationism won out so none of that happened.

Russia still got an event where there nobles could begin agitating against socialist rule though, and one of their options was to reach a compromise with the socialists where they could start supporting the liberal cause, but they chose to more discreetly start supporting monarchists in Vienna instead, and that culminated in the coup and revival of the German Empire.

On the bright side, this almost definitely means an alliance with Russia, because that's an aggressively expanding country on its border, surrounding its colony which is the gateway to all of its other colonies.
