Lol imagine doing this for the Republican primary in 2015 and looking anything but crazy, Trump would've been like 20% overall but still win.

They were afraid that Cameron would seek new elections as soon as conditions were in the Tories favour, giving him the opportunity to form a majority and dump the Lib Dems as coalition partners. FTPA meant he couldn't do that without a parliamentary approval, and the Lib Dems saw that as guaranteeing the coalition would last. Which it did, so congrats Nick!

technically the fixed term parliaments act has lots of rules which have to be followed to start a general election, but you only need a simple majority to repeal the act itself, then you’re back to how it used to be

look it's not a lot of people, there were 17.4 million who voted to leave and when do they get their opportunity to march?

That's not a given

quote:

As per the provisions of the Interpretation Act 1978, a repeal of 2011 Act would not reverse the repeal of the Septennial Act 1715, unless words are explicitly added doing so. This is a well-established rule in statute law, and words in the repealing Act reviving the 1715 Act could be used.

Section 16 of the Act also says that a repeal of a repealed Act does not, “unless the contrary intention appears […] revive anything not in force or existing at the time at which the repeal takes effect”.

The 1978 Act does not explicitly make reference to prerogative powers. This “anything” would appear to suggest that without an explicit statement in the repealing Act, any repeal of the 2011 Act would not result in the prerogative power being revived.

Yes unless they vote for to no confidence the governement, which the Tories won't because they're scared of Corbyn winning a general election

So the registered electorate in 2016 was about 46 million. The "Scrap Article 50" petition is now at 4.6 million signatures (and increasing all the time). Roughly 10% of the voting population seems like a pretty significant number.

Let me get this straight.

No one likes May's deal.

No one wants a no deal Brexit.

No one wants to stay in the EU.

So the solution is to... force her to resign so they don't get her deal and crash out with no deal?
