END ME SCOOB posted:From memory it was game speed. Yeah a lot of old games just tied game speed directly to processor speed so if your PC was too fast the game was unplayable. In-game speed settings would allow you to just insert sleep(some number of cycles) commands to artificially slow things down.

I think they just ended up liking giving people the option of making the game slower, because Jazz still had it years later.

Slo-mo owned in Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark so maybe they were on to something.

Elevators should not have close doors buttons, because I always mistakenly press them instead of the open doors button when somebody's running up. I'm not a dick, I'm just an unobservant idiot, please believe me

Yeah if you've ever moved stuff out of an office building and borrowed the elevator key, you open and close the doors manually with those buttons (so you can keep the elevator open indefinitely while moving stuff in) , which is why they're there.

i was really surprised to turn on steam and see rage 2 listed for pre-order, and apparently beth has announced all their other titles going that way as well? i wonder if valve blew them behind the scenes or something. they probably have the clout/brand recognition to go all in on their bethesda launcher. losing them along with all of EA's games, maybe all of Ubi's future games (based on how happy they were with their uplay pre-order sales figures for div 2), whatever other random ace poo poo epic store is going to steal with their chinese money, would have conceivably turned steam into an oddball platform for AA releases and toilet bowl indie poo poo.

Fallout 76 was the first Bethesda launcher exclusive and it barely worked (the launcher, though I guess the game too). So that may have colored things somewhat, but it's still surprising They may be doing the Uplay thing and just letting Valve sell their games for them

The bethesda launcher was an unbelievable failure on basically every level (not surprising for bethesda tbh) so them deciding to go back to steam isn't surprising at all. I'm also starting to think that we'll see Epic in court soon over GDPR violations.
