The pool is probably being kept closed because there's still active recruitment going on (both in-game and out of game: you can still submit characters, right now!) and surprising everyone when wonderful characters show up is very amusing

You seem to be missing a poll. But my advice is Vulture and save the rest for armor. The reason the sniper didn't get a second action is that the ability activates on kills from elevation, not shots from elevation, and the shot wasn't a kill. It won't give you a second sniper shot (which takes two actions) but can be used for a pistol shot or to reload. Now you see why we laughed when your ranger got Serial.

Would it be too big of a spoiler to point out they have enough supplies for vulture and armor? OTOH I think it might be pick two of armor, a GTS tactic, and researching gauss weapons when armor is done.

Serial feels wonderful when you've got the right situation for it, doesn't it? One thing you may not have noticed, by the way: each consecutive kill gives a cumulative -1 dmg penalty to the next attack, so you can't quite go forever. But you can certainly wipe out a pod just fine, as you saw!

I wish I could get a mission like this. Cause even if you lose the bonus for bringing them in alive, it would be so drat hilarious to have everyone sit in the evac zone, snipe the VIP and just immediately leave Notty posted:Nat A Month Ago: I don’t see how (this game) is fun. ...granted, this combined with sneaking the VIP out in concealment turned out to be equally hilarious.

Armour first. Then Vulture, if you can afford it. Incidentally, I'm interested to see you do that 'mysterious signal' mission. I did it quite early in my first game and while not easy, it wasn't super-tough either and I lost no troops, in no small part because Shen is an awesome hacker and I brought two other hack-equipped specialists. I think doing it early means you face weaker enemies so being kitted out that way made it relatively pain-free. Though I lost the Spark I got from there in the very next mission.

I am glad my shittily named dude showed up. I was just not feeling creative the day I named him. After all I should have had him be a ranger so he would get in the frontlines.

This one I typically do once I get the magnetic weapons so I have no idea how badly it scales if left alone - do the enemies get tougher? That being said, they've got colonels now, it should be fine as long as they bring maketheboxlonger Emi.

Other aliens don’t.

The enemies in the tower mission do indeed get tougher, though I never had much trouble with them.

You know, back when you were struggling with your first Codex and complaining how ridiculous they were, I was really hoping you'd just stick with the game until you saw that the ridiculous poo poo swings both ways. And now you have. Really though, while Rangers are crazy, it's really the frost bomb that's the truly overpowered thing here.

There's a make utility items available button on both the squad select screen and individual soldier screens. The button removes them from all soldiers not currently selected, so the fact that you keep using the one on the individual soldier screen (even leaving the squad select to do it) means it's unequipping the wrong soldiers.

I appreciated the Lehrer reference. I'm surprised that you triggered that last group - I guess the serpent suit fear doesn't respect sight range. Ah, sketchy DLC programming. Also, apparently your version of Serial doesn't have the crit penalty. Was that added in the expansion, or do rangers get a better version of Serial?

By the way, something that would make your life a little easier and probably be entertaining: you can name guns from the weapon upgrade screen. Unless the xpac added that. That way you can see if people have a modded gun equipped straight from the squad selection screen.
