The scene is undercut by Desil becoming a statue and not putting up any real effort or fight against Asemu. Also, by him being entirely and completely useless against an enemy that was practically custom made to make him look useful i.e. Girard Spriggan.

I've always kind of thought of IBO as small scale, since prior to that there were only one or two fights with more than fifty Mobile Suits on display, but that one had, judging just by what we see, a thousand plus Mobile Suits. (65 plus battleships, 20ish plus MS each). Meanwhile, Char's Neo Zeon apparently had less than sixty suits total. Kind of made me wonder what the biggest battles were across the shows. I'm guessing SEED got up there in massive, pointless everything exploding?

It's a nice change from the typical "stamp foot, throw hat, drat those heroes!!  " opposition.
